Really a throwback. You go north of Watkins Glen on either side of the lake, and if you removed the wineries, there would be nothing there. Not even gas stations for 40 miles until you hit Geneva.

Add $100-plus on a bottle of wine and you have my three biggest vices.

I agree. I wouldn't drop $100-plus for a meal, but I sure would for concert tickets if Stevie Nicks were involved.

I dropped a little more than $700 at a steak/seafood place in Portland you guys wouldn't know about on my wife's 30th birthday for a couple of meals, some drinks and a bottle of dom. She still has that empty bottle of dom around here somewhere, so obviously it was worth it. ; )

I'm with you. No want. It also might be that I think I lack the enzyme to properly break the stuff down.

I was part of a party of seven once with a bill (thankfully footed by a company that could afford it) that was more than $1K. I think a hefty portion of that was the wine. The same person continued to pick up the drink tab later at multiple places. I learned my lesson to stop trying to keep up with the guys that night.

It seems kind of stupid to me to say you spent some ungodly amount on a meal when 95% of it was wine. You spent an ungodly amount on the wine. The meal was incidental.

Three orders of The for 12 euros? Now that's a bargain!

I've never appreciated good Champagne. You want to go crazy and drop a couple of grand on some Petrus or Screaming Eagle, I get it (athough not to the tune of 90,000 Euros). But to drop serious coin on Dom or Cristal is insane.
