I take it Joe didn't agree with that HOF selection, either?

He was ranting about Ryne before he retired. That's the piece of shit Joe Morgan is.

Hadn't read the whole thread because I got tired of the Nolan Ryan discussion, but limiting this strictly to Hall of Famers, here's my picks:

Bill Mazeroski - all glove, no bat.

Orlando Cepada - a good player on some great teams.

The election of both caused the Hall of Fame to revise its veteran's committee selection process.

As for Gary Carter - he along with Carlton Fisk were the best two catchers of the 80s. And for those who think this is a 'New York thing' keep in mind, he went into the Hall as an Expo.

  4. Don't feel like wading through 22 pages, but the correct answer is Joe Carter.

Honest to goodness, that's the first player I thought of. But then the shit hit the fan with people trying to minimize Nolan Ryan's career and that was that.

I believe you're the first to mention Carter.

As for Joe Morgan, I think he thinks the Hall of Fame should have been shut after he was inducted. What a shithead.

Yeah, Joe Morgan needs to kicked in the groin. Or, better yet, have his vocal cords slit before he jumps on the set.

    People minimizing Nolan Ryan?

    I guess 7 no-hitters and 5,000 strikeouts or whatever isn't Hall-worthy.

Perhaps minimize was the wrong word, but people were trying to make legitimate cases that he was the most overrated player in baseball history. Boggles my mind.

    Mazeroski numbers:
    Hitting:
    AB              H              R           2B      3B          HR       RBI     BA
    7755         2016         769        294      62         138     853     .260

    Fielding:
    PO             A               E            DP        FP
    4974        6685           204        1706     .983

    Ozzie Smith numbers:
    AB              H              R           2B      3B          HR       RBI     BA
    9396        2460         1257       402      69          28      793    .262

    Fielding
    PO             A               E            DP        FP
    4249        8375           281        1590     .978

So why is it OK for Ozzie?

Joe Carter overrated? He's thought of as a guy who had a nice career, had a big World Series home run, and will never sniff the Hall of Fame. Is there anyone who thinks of him as more than that? How is he overrated?

And I don't agree with Joe Morgan on much, but I don't think Sandberg should be in the Hall, either.

Because he barehanded that wicked bouncer during his rookie year?

Or maybe 'cuz he hit that lefty homer off "Foo-Foo" in the '85 playoffs, his very first lefty homer?

Wait, wait: it's because he could do a running flip as he trotted to play defense.

Or, because Cal Poly San Luis Obispo paid voters.

  12. Carter's 1989 season with the Indians perfectly epitomizes his over-worthiness.

Back then: 35 bombs, 32 doubles, 105 RBI ... great season!

Now: .292 OBP, .757 OPS, 3:1 strikeout to walk ratio ... mediocre season!
