Most overrated baseball player of all time

Ozzie Smith defined the shortstop position in the 80s. He was the unquestioned best player at his position for better than a decade. This was not the case with Maz.

He was overrated when he was playing.

And his "moment" is overrated. He hit a home run off a bitch everyone in the ballpark and everyone watching at home knew was going to find a way to blow the game.

If you're going to compare offensive numbers for Mazeroski and Ozzie, include Ozzie's stolen bases. He had a lot, played in an era when that was important and played for a team that used the running game as a big part of its offensive strategy.

Also understand that shortstop is a much more difficult defensive position than second base. You don't hear of many second basemen moving to short when they start to slow down late in their careers.

Joe doesn't agree with any HOF 2B selection that isn't Joe Morgan.

    Fuck.

    Him.

I wish I could find that picture of Schilling with his head buried in his hands as Williams is pitching in Game Six. One of the funniest pics ever.

Yeah, Danny Jackson called Schilling on that diva crap. Said he was milking camera time. Curt Schilling, never!

It's funny (after a cursory search) that there's an Illinois magician named Mitch Williams -- part of the Society of Professional Magicians, no less -- and he even bears resemblance.

Mazeroski won 8 gold gloves between 1958 and 1967. That means no one was better. That's pretty much a decade.

There's a great idea: Not only using Gold Gloves as a standard of fielding excellence but as a standard of one's HOF worthiness.

Because, you know, it's not like the electorate ever falls into the habit of voting for someone year after year after year.

Rafael Palmiero was the best first baseman in the game in 1999!!!

I got in a little late, but saying Garciappara has a better average in 1,500+ FEWER at-bats is not really good for Nomar. So does that mean since Seattle's Mike Morse is batting .381 this season in 21 at-bats, which is a paltry 6,471 at-bats less than Jeter in his career that you would conclude Morse is a better batter?
And I like Nomar, but he should be punished in the thought process for getting hurt. Jeter is the better player because he actually played all those years - except for one, thanks Ken Huckaby - when Nomar's groin kept falling off.

Just to clarify for anyone who may not remember that sham, Palmeiro played all of 28 games that year at 1B and won the AL Gold Glove ...
