And Irvin got way with it dozens of other times.

    You can't play THAT game.

I have to agree with Columbo. Irvin's greatest talent was being able to push off without getting caught.

I don't think it was Volek's visor. Stevens was run into the boards. And if memory serves, that was in the first round.

Here's the difference. The actual scoring is done completely by officials in figure skating and gymnastics. At least in boxing, you can take control by knocking the other guy out.

If some unknown puts on the best performance, they still stand a good chance of losing in figure skating. Reputation figures into the scoring, whether judges want to admit it or not.

That is why figure skating, while athletically challenging, sucks.

    Sirs, Madames,

If we expanded this, I'd say Lupe Pintor. Beneficiary of the worst decision ever. (Zarate)

As bad as the Devils 95 were (Neal Broten, first-line centre, and Bobby Carpenter, 2nd centre), Hall of Famers in Brodeur, Stevens, Neidermayer, Burns and Lamoriello.

    YHS, etc

  9. Was it in 1997 with Michigan and Nebraska. They voted to split the title because Osborne's last year. Hate Michigan but like I say in High School Player of the Year voting: MAKE A DECISION.

Also didn't like the fact some coaches bolted and voted for USC even though LSU/Oklahoma was billed as the title game.

That defines "deserving." Clearly head and shoulders above the rest, talent-wise.

Re: Michigan/Nebraska, yep, the Wolverines were the top-ranked team in both polls going into the Rose. And then Tom Osborne decided to retire and the coaches give him a gold watch on the way out. After Nebraska prevented Penn State from a share of the title in 1994, it proved that the Huskers could have it both ways.

Re: USC/LSU/Oklahoma, that showed the problem with forcing coaches to vote one way based on one game. The coaches believed USC to be the top-ranked team going into the bowls, and yet according to the agreement, they couldn't vote their minds. I loved how JoePA split his vote three ways to accommodate such a dilemma.

I was thinking of "deserving" in moral terms.
