Movie scenes that make you cry

Skipped the first few pages of this thread, but here's some of my killers. It is pathetic, but I can start to mist up BEFORE these scenes, just thinking of them about to come on:

-- The end of 'Glory', when Broderick's body comes to rest on Denzel Washington's in the trench

-- The massacre at the end of 'Mission'. All of it.

-- Sissy Spacek looking out the rain-streaked window in 'The Straight Story', and the end, when the brothers look up at the sky. (This movie is an all-time underrated pure gem).

-- The end of 'Pan's Labyrinth'

-- The scene in 'Children of Men' when the mother carries her baby through the concentration camp riot and everyone stops shooting

My all-time crusher (and its not for sadness): The look on Arthur Gates, Jr.'s face, as the film goes slow-motion, when he walks onto the court to play Isaiah Thomas in 'Hoop Dreams'.

  2. One of my favorite scenes as well. Great poem.

Growing up, I was never a fan of sappiness. The last three years however has been quite an eye-opener for me when it comes to turning on the water well with Dick Vermeil.

I'll preface that I started watching Sex in the City after it ended on HBO (I'm not paying an extra $40 to upgrade to digital and get HBO). My favorite and the one that continues to get to me is the episode when Miranda's mom dies and the girls head out to Philly to support her. Earlier in the show, Miranda and Sam were on the outs and Carrie's laptop goes on the fritz.

Miranda heads to Philly after learning her mom is in the hospital and eventually dies. Sam, not knowing how to grieve anyway, resort to her ways of coping (sex of course).

On the day of the funeral, the girls are outside when Miranda and her family arrives. Miranda starts complaining about being the "third wheel" with her brother and sister-in-law at the recessional at the end of the service. During the funeral, Samantha finally apologizes to Miranda and Miranda silently words back "thank you." Sam breaks down, and the one that did it for me was the final scene when Miranda starts crying as the recessional was going down the aisle. Carrie gets out of the pews, knowing Miranda is completely alone and walks down the aisle with her.

How stupid am I that I saw the thread title and thought I could be the first to mention "Dad, wanna have a catch?" It's my No. 1. My first had to be Bambi's mother dying when I was but a tyke.
Stand by me when River Phoenix fades away
Shirt in the closet in Brokeback
The one I haven't seen listed here is Meet Joe Black, at the end when Anthony Hopkins comments to Brad Pitt about how hard it is to let go of life. Swore I would never see that movie but loved it when I did.

Dead Poet's Society. The end where they're all standing on their desks as Mr. Keating walks out with the bagpipes playing in the background.

The Rookie. The whole scene starting with "Brooks is going up and I want you to tell him..."

Miracle. The speech before the game against the Soviets. "Tonight, WE are the best hockey team in the world."

Field of Dreams. Terrence Mann's soliloquy. "Oooh, people will come, Ray. People will most definitely come."

That scene in Sideways must be like an onion chopping convention at your place then.

I'm trying to remember that scene. All I remember is Lowell knocking the dust off some Sandra Oh.
