Movie scenes that make you cry

Threadjack continued: Maybe this says something about the kind of person I am, but that made me laugh. Not at the kid, mind you, but at this badass drill instructor swinging his cock around like he was Adam, and he gets completely owned by a nine-year-old. But then I can't stand those boot camp shows, because:

    a) they get used so much they're cliche,
    b) the premise is deceitful, since they bring in kids (fine, asshole kids) onto the show for one reason and then switch on them when they get there. Yeah, they're going to act like dicks if you tell them they're on Maury for being the coolest kids on the block, or whatever line of bullshit you feed them to get them to act up.
    c) the shows are seriously predictable. Tearful mom talks about bad kid ... video of kid being mean to mom ... backstage the kid acts hard ... they bring the kid out and the mom immediately starts crying and trying to hug the kid, when you, her and everyone else knows that kid's going to push her away ... few minutes of mom acting like the World's Most Loving Parent, the kid acting like an asshole and Maury being indignant ... repeat process ... SURPRISE! Napoleon boot camp instructors bumrush the stage and start screaming at the kids ... video of them getting their ass kicked at camp ... happy (usually) ending.

Get some new fucking material already.

Gotta admit... this is possibly on my worst 10 movie list of all time.

The end of "Schindler's List" when the survivors and family go to Schindler's grave.
The scenes mentioned in "Terms of Endearment" -- which was just a fantastic movie that never gets its due.
    "Brian's Song"

On TV -- "NYPD Blue" -- Sipowitz in church when his son is in the hospital
When Jackson died on the "White Shadow" -- I can still remember watching the episode when I was in 4th grade
    Henry Blake dying on "MASH"

Every cent Harry Morgan was paid to be in MASH was absolutely earned in that episode.

If you find me a better-written TV show... well, you won't.

Blake's death hit me as unnecessary more than sad when I saw it, and I was a kid. It was like "okay, he left Korea, what's the point of him being dead too?" Later on I saw some reunion or tribute show where they revealed that nobody else in the cast knew they were killing Henry until Radar walked in the operating room.

If I'm picking out a tear-jerker from M*A*S*H, it's the last scene of the last episode where Hawkeye's chopper pulls up to reveal GOODBYE spelled out in bricks against the backdrop of the now-empty camp, a message both for him and us.

Shit. That hit me like a ton of bricks this morning. Damn you, Matt Groening!

I just recently saw another Futurama ep -- the one involving Fry's long-lost clover -- that got me all misty eyed.

As a member of the older generation, I remember crying:

    1. At the end of "Going My Way" when Father O'Malley (Bing Crosby) brings in Father Fitzgibbon's (Barry Fitzgerald) mother that he had not seen in over 50 years.

    2. In "Mary Poppins) when they showed Jane Darwell (who played Ma Joad in "Grapes of Wrath") as the Little Old Bird Woman as Julie Andrews sang "Feed the Birds". Disney himself picked Darwell to do that cameo. She died a short time later.

    3. Tom Hank's death scene at the end of "Philadelphia".

    4. On TV, last Tonight Show with Johnny Carson.

    5. On TV, the end of the Jerry Lewis Telethon each year when he announces the final total. My dad suffered from MD.

When I was a lad of about 4, my mom took me to the movies to see "Bambi". When Bambi's mom got shot, I started crying and bawling so loudly and forcefully, we had to leave the theater.

Now, my 10 year old son taunts me with "Hey, dad; wanna watch Bambi?"

Tom Hanks does some fine acting with death scenes. Gosh, I bawled so hard in Philadephia and Saving Private Ryan. ... and to think he started out in Bosom Buddies and went on to do Bonfire of the Vanities.

Some of the scenes in MASH were so hilarious they made me cry.

    1. End of the original "Rocky," when Adrian comes out of the locker room to see Rocky taking a beating, but refusing to stay down. She can't stay away, but can't bear to watch.
    2. The plane crash scene of "We Are Marshall," but only because I went there. :(
