Yes, same guy. Foster is greatly underrated. Wish he was used more in the uber-crappy X-Men III.

He really has been in some crappy movies, too. He played the skinny kid with all the piercings in the Punisher movie as well. It's amazing how awful that movie was despite some solid performances by good people. Thomas Jane was actually pretty good despite the crap dialogue he was stuck with and Rebecca Romjin was even decent.

But John Travolta was AWFUL and the script was worse.

I enjoyed this movie ... psychological drama with an exquisite story-telling angle to it. And the ending - different.
Not sure I could see many other male actors in this role.

Best way to describe it, from the review below:
"This is not a movie for those who want easy thrills and chills and car chases."

I just watched "The Wicker Man" on HBO 410.

I want the last 105 minutes back.

You get nothing! You should have known by the 1 1/2 stars on the program description it would be shit. :)

I always thought the original was overrated. I'm sure the final scene was shocking in its day, but other than that the movie was boring as hell.

Really looking forward to "Gone Baby Gone," especially after seeing the acting job Casey Affleck did in "The Assasination of Jesse James." That kid's got some chops.

Last night watched The Bad News Bears, again. Just doesn't get any better than that, though, what's up with Ahmad stripping down to his draws and climbing that tree?

Has anyone ever seen the HBO film "Bury My Heart at Wounded Knee?" I just turned it on and think it looks pretty good.

"The Lives of Others," subtitled German movie that won the most recent Oscar for foreign language film, was top notch all the way around. The Euros are so good at being subtle.

The English language production of "Love in the Time of Cholera," based on Nobel winner Gabriel Garcia Marquez's novel of the same name, is coming out some time this year. I caught a showing of it already. Javier Bardem is at his best, but as always, a movie that attempts to span a period of many years (almost 60 in this case) loses something on screen that it is able to keep on the pages of a book.

"La Misma Luna," a joint Mexican-U.S. production that chronicles the tale of a 9-year-old boy who crosses the border illegally in order to be with his mother, will be out in March. Having seen this one as well, I can say it will at least be in the conversation for best foreign language film not only because it is exquisitely made, but also because of the relevant subject matter.

This being the best month for monster movies, there's been a shitpile of them on all the movie channels. One of the gems is a real lost treasure from the '70s called "Alice, Sweet Alice" (nee "Communion.") It's a slick thriller equal parts slasher/whodunit swarming with Catholic subtexts and all the right stuff to give a person the creeps -- even a fat guy child molestor who listens to show tunes while taking occasional spoonfuls of cat food.

If this movie were made now, it would not be nearly as unpleasant (in a good way) to watch as it presently is.

Anyone see 30 Days of Night yet? I'm going to try to catch it during the week. Not expecting much in a fantastic movie sort of way, but I'm hoping for a high entertainment factor, at least.

I never read the comic, so maybe I'll look into that as well.

I saw it today and really, really liked it. Emile Hirsch was great and Hal Halbrook was phenomenal. It was a bit too long, but powerful.
