the search for the wrong-eyed jesus.

what a beautiful piece of movie. you've never seen anything like it.

next up ... grand theft parsons.

esquire gave "grand theft parsons" 4 stars. not sure it gets even 2. that said, i think knoxville can be great given the right role. he wasn't bad in this. applegate sucked. the nazi skinhead from "let's go to prison" is ok as the hippie hearse driver. and tommy_d, the bar girl (stuntman mike's passenger in part I is knoxville's girlfriend i this.

next up ... penelope. but i doubt ricci is going to be doing any black snake moaning.

so ricci doesn't black oink moan, either, and "penelope" doesn't really bring home the bacon. but mcavoy is good (as always), and witherspoon in a bit part is rather sassy and sexy. not a bad little flick with a message even though it got murdered in the reviews.

    candy.

good flick. ledger and cornish are terrific in this tale of passion that died when the drugs ate them alive. did ledger ever do a character wrong? the miscarriage scene is devastating, and candy's poem about the epic-tragic love of candy and dan is goddamn fucking awesome.

paranoid park by gus van sant ...

not that good, but some of the young turks will be in the next wave of faces we'll see over and over. gabe nevins (the lede) has potential. some cool skateboard shots. otherwise, eh. 1.5 stars.

    next up ... cast away.

cast away is endearing. love the relationship with wilson. but the movie is 15-20 minutes too long.

Hey, I'm not knocking anybody here, but I can't believe people thought Cast Away (Castaway, whatever) was a good movie.

So, what you're telling me Xan, in your own special way, is: You liked Castaway? (Cast Away, Kast Away, whichever).

adjust the hearing aid, granny: it's endearing. and i loved the whole wilson thing. too long, too. but it's a helluva lot better than no country for old men.

Haven't seen Old Country. Haven't enjoyed a "Best Picture" winner in years.
