Just watched Step Brothers. Don't think I've laughed that hard at a Will Ferrell movie the first time I've seen it since Anchorman.

It was a tad long but I felt it was consistently funny throughout. The ending was a little too neatly wrapped up for my liking but seeing John C. Reilly's character throwing in "Boats and Hos" in the midst of the opera song more than made up for it.

Oh, and the after-credit scene of the two kicking the crap out of those little kids was F-N awesome.

    Overall ... 7.5 out of 10.

You are a dog person, that is more than enough for me :).

Speaking of movies I watched Jackie Brown again the other night and forgot how great a film that is.

I want to see that movie, "My Winnipeg." What a great title for one of my favorite city names. Used to love when the Kings went up to play the Jets.

I thought Step Brothers was incredibly disappointing. A couple of laugh-out-loud moments, but that's it. I'd give it a 4 out of 10, at best.

Went and saw Valkyrie with my son, who's 15 and a burgeoning history buff. The reviews I'd read -- and I usually avoid doing that -- stumbled on the notion that Cruise and his ego/stardom somehow held the movie back. I really didn't see that too much and I enjoyed the movie. Wasn't the best I've ever seen, but it was worth going to.

Just where does everyone think he learned how to be such an I-love-everything simpleton?

The two modern name film critics who are most guilty of giving rave reviews to
undeserving pieces of work are Gene Shalit -- and Lyons' father.

Liked Valkyrie, although I thought it sort of wasted a bunch of great supporting actors. Like novelist_wannabe, my teen-aged son loved it and was fascinated by the story.

Saw Doubt and liked it, although I thought it was more effective on stage. But Hoffman was better than I imagined he'd be. Amy Adams was a little too dewy-eyed throughout, though.

Watched "The Kite Runner" today. It was perfect. I honestly can't find one quibble with it. Outstanding.
