You folks may be on to something.

Paddy Power's odds for Best Motion Picture - Drama,
for the Golden Globes . . . often a leading indicator:

    Slumdog 4/6
    Button 10/3
    Revolutionary 4/1
    Frost/Nixon 8/1
    The Reader 16/1

Just watched "The House Bunny". Fuck, that film sucked.

Decent premise, decent lead actor (I like Anna Faris) but all in all a poorly done movie with little to no humor.

About the only time I laughed is when Faris' character is told to "blow on this" by a cop who thinks she's drunk and she gets on her knees.

    A strong 3 out of 10.

Oscar nominations to Pitt, Blanchett, and Henson are in order.

I hope to god, not, except for Henson.

The best acting done by Daisy and Benjamin were by actors other than Pitt and Blanchett.

I know we're talking "award winning" movies right now, but I just found out something today that made me happier than a pig in slop.

Rob Zombie is actually going to do a sequel to his Halloween remake from last year. Titled H2 and it apparently is coming out this year.

Just thought I'd share a horror fan's joy with the rest of you. Flame away.

That's a great line . . . but Blanchett was superlative, as always.

Basic, general thoughts on some "award" movies recently, and some other movies I just happened to see...anybody wants to jaw with me, they can here or on PM...

Ben Button: Just so in a bad way. Should be retitled "The Way Baby Boomers Wish the World Had Been" as directed by a guy who, I guess, just got tired of swimming upstream with mainstream audiences.

Valkyrie: Other than the fact that most people will need a crib sheet to know what's going down in the first half-hour, it's slightly better than average. Terrific use of sound throughout. Most reviewers either chose to ignore its subtitles or weren't smart enough to pick up on them. Probably the latter.

The Reader: AKA "Remember that Kate Winslet sex movie where she's a Nazi or something?" Winslet's actually quite good, as she often is when her character has a dark heart with guilt to burn. Intriguing character study. The movie too often tries to go deeper, equivocate the sins of one with the sins of another...I didn't go there with it.

Revolutionary Road: The Life of Mr. and Mrs Robinson, more or less, about 10 years before the opening scene in "The Graduate."

    Seven Pounds <i>to the tune of "Let's Go Hoyas!"</i> Clap-clap clap-clap-clap - PAY IT FORWARD! - clap-clap clap-clap-clap

Gran Torino: I'll take "Ulee's Gold," thanks. Troubling morals, like Mystic River, without five great performances to boost it. Only the Clint.

Burn After Reading: Piece of shit. Hated it. Should be renamed Idiots and Assholes.

Synchdoche, NY: Awesome, troubling, funny smart film. See it, then think about it. It has a lot to say.

I saw this last week and couldn't agree more. Major letdown. Worst Coen Brothers movie I have seen.

Anybody else see "In the Valley of Elah" with Tommy Lee Jones and Charlize Theron? Damn. Really good flick. Explores a lot of topics, mostly how just unprepared our young soldiers are for the horror they face in Iraq, and how fucked up in the head they are when they get back.

Wasn't a fan. Sat through on the advice of many and thought to myself "this is it?". TLJ puts in a good performance, but I felt it was flat and rather dull.
