Apple and Google pushed updates to phones to allow use of contact tracing apps should the owner of the phone want to download one. I'll say again, should the owner of the phone download one. They included an explanation of the update in the update. They offered instructions of how the apps would work should they choose to download it.

    People lost their fucking minds.

No one bothered to read any of that and just assumed the app was downloaded and the government was spying on them. The gnashing of teeth and rending of garments could be heard far and wide.

That's how these programs will go.

Do them anyway. That's what real leadership is about, making unpopular choices.

It also doesn't justify the lack of a federally-coordinated testing program.

The lack of a testing program on the national level—including mass production of tests and coordinated test analysis—is nothing short of criminal.

The contact tracing would have been interesting to see if Trump had actually tried it. My guess is it goes down in flames because Trump is weak to criticism from his base and he doesn't have the drive to see something like that through.

I agree with all of this. Both issues are a clear demonstration of why Trump is not fit to be president.

Furthermore, Amazon also regularly assesses the data from Widget A and Widget B, then frequently decides to launch its own Widget C under one of its hundreds of house brands...PLUS, in order to launch Widget C, it reaches out to the manufacturing source of Widget A (which is top secret info that Widget A is required by the AMZ TOS to provide) and negotiates a better price, thus pushing Widget A down the vendor ladder. Oh, and guess which widget gets prime real estate when you go to Amazon and search for widgets?

It's only a matter of time before AMZ gets nailed for this...and they know this themselves, which is why AMZ is actually a conglomeration of more than a dozen "independent" companies with "independent" boards of directors, so that when the time comes to break up the company, Bezos won't take a financial hit.

When the time comes to break up the company Bezos will have a bunch of stock in each of them. I remember the Ma Bell breakup. He not only won't take a financial hit, he'll make out like a bandit.

People who use their phone to post on Facebook about how they don't want anyone tracking them are the height of ironic.

Alanis should update the song again.

I love those posts. It isn't like you clicked "I agree" to the terms and conditions for using Facebook which is more legally binding than a vague pronouncement you shared from some source.

What do you think the basis of this is? Is there contract tracing that is linking alcohol sales after 10 p.m. to more cases? How many people are out getting drinks at restaurants at 10 p.m. anyway? This seems like a move to make it look like action is being taken but doesn't really have an impact one way or the other.

Just like when Denver had Prohibition for a couple of hours in March when King Hancock ordered liquor stores to close early, this, too, will not end well.

The state is claiming the 20-29 group is leading the spread of infection. That's not going to stop people in that age group or others from getting together. Bars and nightclubs have been re-shut down. It's an overreach. One of many he has been making.
