I'm so sorry to hear, Driftwood. Hoping for a quick and full recovery. Stay safe.

My niece in Nashvile has now tested positive, so that's two different branches of my family tree -- and she's a doctoral candidate at Vanderbilt who was taking every precaution possible. Her thesis is on a chemical analysis of Alzheimer's, so I'm hoping she defends well and goes on to keep me from getting it.

I bought one of these early on in the pandemic...not for detecting the virus but for the oxygen level reading.
Can an Oximeter Help Detect COVID-19 at Home?
Q: So, can a pulse oximeter be a helpful tool for monitoring COVID-19 at home?
Dr. Connolly: If a person has a mild case of COVID-19 and is self-treating at home, an oximeter can be a helpful tool for checking oxygen levels so that low oxygen levels can be caught early. In general, the people who are theoretically more at risk for oxygen issues are those with pre-existing lung disease, heart disease and/or obesity, as well as active smokers.

In addition, since "happy hypoxia" can be present in people who might otherwise be regarded as asymptomatic, a pulse oximeter can help ensure that this clinically silent early warning sign is not missed.

If you have tested positive for COVID-19 and are concerned about any developing symptoms, check immediately with your health care provider. From a lung health standpoint, aside from the objective pulse oximeter measurements, I suggest to my patients that if they're having any labored breathing, severe chest pain, uncontrollable coughing or dusky lips or fingers, it's time to go to the ER.

Blood Oxygen Levels: What’s All the Hype About? - Hackensack Meridian Health
Q: Should I monitor my blood oxygen levels at home?
Dr. Pristas: There are some scenarios when your doctor might recommend you monitor your blood oxygen levels at home. If you have an underlying health condition, like heart or lung disease, or you are in the process of recovering from COVID-19, it could be helpful for you to keep an eye on your blood oxygen levels. However, if you do choose to monitor from home, talk to you doctor first about how to properly use the device, understand your reading and interpret the results. For example, if your hand is not steady during the reading you could see varying saturations from a faulty reading.

If you’re otherwise healthy, it’s not necessary to have a pulse oximeter or any other device to monitor your blood oxygen levels at home. If you’re unsure, ask your doctor for personal advice.

    Thanks to all.
My biggest frustration is there doesn't seem to be a consensus on how long it is from exposure to symptoms. I've been told everything from two weeks to three days. It's not frustration from my part in terms of my diagnosis but about who I've been around. If I picked it up maybe last Friday through Monday and started showing symptoms on Wednesday night, I can sort of backtrack. If I've been carrying since Oct. 7, no, I don't know who I've been around or how long I've been around them.
Also, although I feel pretty much fine right now, am I going to be laid out in the floor gasping for air the day after tomorrow? Logic would think that with the fever I had last night, it killed the virus, and has since broken, so maybe the worst is past. Or, maybe I'm just getting started. Neither my regular doctor nor my niece nurse practitioner can seem to tell me much.

This morning I've been working around the house, washing the sheets, disinfecting things. I've even been outside wandering around in the yard picking up sticks and stuff.
We were on fall break last week. We had a home football game Friday night I had to work in the press box, and then we were back at school full time with all students on Monday for the first time. I'd like to think I got it one of those two places and not a long time before.

Get some Zicam and Vitamin D and start taking them both every six hours.

Everyone else: if at any point during the pandemic you awake with any sort of fever, learn from Driftwood: stay home until you register no fever for at lest 48 hours. Your community thanks you.
    Get well soon, Drift!

@Driftwood, I hope this is a mild case with no lingering effects.

@TigerVols, is your family member okay?

@maumann, your family needs a break.
