She was probably very safe and wore a mask, unlike that Re-“scrub”-lican Luke Letlow.

    May she RIP.

Reached nearly my wits end when for Christmas I expressly wrote to family members (after confirming with parents this is how we're doing it), "DON'T visit my parents (86 & 84), just leave stuff outside door and ring bell", sure enough Christmas rolls around and family members say "let's say hi and meet at [my parents) garage." I mean WTF?? Why put my parents at risk, for what? A 15 min visit?? Yeah I wish I see everyone too but think of the consequences.

This afternoon, while I was at work, my brother texted me and told me I needed to get tested. He dropped by on Saturday with his kids. Today he found out his sons, 9 and 12 years old, tested positive.

I told my supervisor and they sent me home. I'm off tomorrow, too, now. I've been trying to get a test today or tomorrow but I may have to wait until at least Saturday. All the appointments at every single CVS within a 10-15-mile radius are booked solid for the next few days (and you can't swing a dead cat without hitting a CVS around here). I tried to go to a drive-up place that was listed as being open until 7. It's closed until Saturday. The urgent care place down the street won't even answer the phone. The Walgreens here is booked solid for three days.

These things always have a way of happening when I can't do anything about them but hold my breath for a few days.

I couldn't get a testing appointment around here until Monday. This shit is *everywhere* right now.

So just stay in my residence and sit tight for a while. I guess that's all I can do.

I spent four days at my parents' over Christmas and drove back on Monday. Monday night I had a scratchy throat. I've had off and on light headaches, nasal congestion and now the throat thing is back again. The good news is I don't have a cough, I can still taste and smell, my temp is normal and I even felt fine while digging my car out today (we got 4-6" of pure fluff overnight). It wouldn't be out of the ordinary if this were my sinuses expelling four days of pet dander or rioting over spending time at an outdoor bonfire with family members on a cold Sunday afternoon. Hell, it could just be garden variety Minnesota dry freeze. I've run the humidifier around the clock for two days now, and the headache was so mild I just realized a couple hours ago that I never actually took the ibuprofen I got out of the bathroom this morning.

But because, to break up the 5-hour drive home, I idiotically went inside for a cup of coffee with my 60+ uncle, who cares for a cousin with late-stage muscular dystrophy, and was in contact with family members outdoors (including, briefly, my 94-year-old grandmother), I'm rather concerned and a little ashamed of myself. The good news is that, as I've mentioned before, Minnesota has widely available saliva testing. I took one before I left on the trip (negative, obviously), and today I drove in, did my brief registration online, spat (several times) in the tube, twisted the cap on, shook it up, handed it to the tech and walked out the door. Whole process took 10 minutes maybe, they'll bill my insurance, and I'll probably have results before the ball drops tomorrow night.

Other than the mentioned gatherings, all I did was sleep on my parents' couch and go to the grocery store, but my little brother came home from college and was out late one of the nights visiting a high school buddy of his. I shouldn't have even gone home, but Mom and Dad gave me the hard sell (kind of like that SNL sketch a couple weeks ago). Dad's a softy and said "I'm so glad you're home," about six times in the first two hours I was there. I guess we'll find out if it's worth it.

Was invited to game night tomorrow by friends who just flew back from a trip north. They *still* don't believe Covid is real.

    Hard pass.
