If a school has 1200 students and 1/4 get it, that’s 9-10 students dying in that school.

3.2% does not sound like much, but it is.

 

Hopefully this thing gets under control sooner rather than later. Hopefully the people at the CDC (what's left of them and their budget) are allowed to to their work.

I haven't given it much thought until now. But living in a major population center and using mass transit, it now has my attention.

 

It would probably be helpful for the White House to have a spokesperson who has experience at handling press conferences.

And yes, Singapore's size helps a great deal with its crisis response. Even that, the ranks of paternalistic technocrats in government, and high levels of public trust didn't stop people here from rushing out and clearing store shelves. It's not as much of a freakout as it could be, but things could always get worse. Flights to South Korea are being cut drastically and student exchanges are frozen indefinitely. I only have to be here for seven more weeks, but I worry where I'll be able to go after that.
