Yes, technically. We had a couple of flus in the 50s and 60s including one that was going around during Woodstock. And H1N1 infected about a billion people over a year. Just they weren’t as deadly or debilitating.

I remember I was going to watch that. The NBA had announced they were suspending the season the next day but had not suspended the late games. People were wondering what the point of the Kings and Pelicans was. I realize that the Kings and Pelicans playing at any time can be considered pointless but this was in the context of the Coronavirus.

I was kind of unimpressed with "If we hit all our vaccination goals we might be able to have small cookouts on the Fourth."

Better than "let's fill the pews at Easter and maybe we'll do some injections of bleach while we're at it." And Biden is from the school of underpromise, overdeliver.

The timeline to me seems more like small gatherings by Memorial Day and bigger (but not full-on ragers) events by the Fourth.

March 24, Moderna first shot scheduled. I can hang until then.

She’ll have to drive an hour because appointments around here are scarce, but my GF (53 with health issues) has an appointment for March 18. My number is supposed to come up in mid-April. Seeing some light at the end of this tunnel.

The Administration has, smartly in my opinion, been under-promising and over-delivering from the start. Temper expectations and then surpass them. And leaves wiggle room if there is a major setback.

This is true, and I think it has been admirable how unwilling the Biden Administration has been to ride the proverbial narrative cycle, but I do fear that due to mask scolds or overly cautious parts of the medical community, no one on the left wants to be the first person to say it's OK to return to whatever our lives were before March 2020, and it would have been a lot more inspiring to offer at least a qualified look at a post-COVID paradigm. I mean, I figure that by Memorial Day, the reality on the ground is much more likely to be rosier than Biden et al are willing to concede publicly, but after 12 months in my one-bedroom news spaceship, I was hoping for a better prognosis than he offered.

When I think of what the Rangers announced this week, it is very stupid and irresponsible, but it kind of reminds me of skydiving. They clearly skipped the intermediate steps to satisfy the reactionary members of their community and government, but at some point someone has to jump out of the plane, you know?

I don't know what makes me less enthusiastic about dining indoors at a restaurant - COVID-19 or being around some idiots bitching about masks and other distancing policies.

God, I realize we need to continue to distance, wear masks, etc. I know Texas, etc., are being monumentally stupid. But would it kill someone from the CDC to be at least a little optimistic, instead of more doomsday talk? I'm not talking Trump disinformation, lies or total stupidity, but some acknowledgement that we're making progress?

I really think this is a big contributor to Covid fatigue. It's always bad news. We're vaxxing millions more than Biden promised, death and hospitality rates are crashing, but THE VARIANTS!! I am not stupid, or some head-in-the-sand Foxer. It's not over, but we are winning. It wouldn't hurt to say that once in a while.

I think there will definitely be people who linger and mask scold longer than needed. It’s inevitable and certainly an issue.

But I kinda feel like we’re gonna “know” when it’s pretty much all clear. Once I’m full vaccinated I plan to get back to normal as fast as I can. Yes, I’ll wear a mask when required and follow the guidelines.

But also planning to travel and see friends and family again. Hopefully the cases/deaths are in a good place by May/June.
