Not just branch banking, which is because of technology, and the digitization of credit and money.

The number of actual banks is lower, too, largely due to mergers. ... for a variety of reasons having to do with regulation and scale. There were 14,000 bank charters in 1985. Less than 8.500 in 2000. Less than 4,900 today.

True, but to Write’s point, I’ve noticed an acceleration in my hood and I wonder if banks are using COVID regulations as an excuse to get out of their longterm leases. Or using bailout funds to cover the lease-breaking charges?

Yeah, The Libruhls are just as bad. Just like everybody else. We're all in this together.
Bullshit. Some numbers for total doses administered per 100,000 people in May only:
States in which Democrats have both gubernatorial and legislative control: 19,776
States in which control is split: 16,257
States in which Trumpists control both: 12,412.

Thanks, TigerVols. I couldn't believe it if I've been the only one to notice the closures of banks, in particular, lately.

What prompted my post, in particular, is that my elderly mom has been bothered throughout the COVID mess by her bank branch being temporarily closed, with all kinds of signs/notices posted all over the doors (well, all kinds except for when it is planned to ever open again), so that she's having to use an ATM exclusively. (Well, actually, she's been having me use her ATM exclusively :)), while she has been grousing that I've been able to go to my (open) bank whenever I want (within the slightly shortened hours that have been in place since the COVID threat began). She was even saying last week how maybe she should change over to my bank.

Well, I got a notice a couple days ago that my seemingly busy branch will be permanently closing in August.:(

Not just America, to be fair. Hong Kong has dangled all manner of incentives in front of people, threatened to take away others, and thrown open vaccinations to mainlanders, asylum seekers, and pretty much everyone from teens on up. Despite starting vaccinations in February, we still only have 18 percent of the population (7.5 million people) with at least one dose and 13 percent fully vaccinated.

PTO, free apartments, flight tickets, cash prizes, matchmaking services -- the government and its corporate partners are throwing everything they can at the problem, and very few people seem to be biting. Some people just will not be moved.
Hong Kong civil servants get ‘2 days off’ as vaccine perk; no new Covid-19 cases

Funny how people in Hong Kong would have little trust in a massive government-sponsored program.

As someone who still lives there -- yep.

Mike DeWine used to be considered far-right, especially by Ohio standards. He's going to face a primary challenge because he took the pandemic seriously (and isn't a Trumper). Meanwhile, people like Kasich and Portman are being cast out like lepers.

I look forward to Trumpists boycotting Stetson.
