You're right in the bolded part, of course, but most people just don't have time to do that. They rely on people who say they know to know and to be honest about what they know or don't know. Very few folks have the time or interest to get trapped in the inner circle of thought, to paraphrase Albert Brooks.

Why is being magnetic a bad thing? I'd never misplace my keys again, they'd be stuck to me. No more sticking a fly in my cap when I change it out, just put it on my forehead to dry before I put it back in the box.

Taking showers more frequently than every other week helps too.

Kristen Wiig would play that character flawlessly.

Public health students surge at UAB

"The number of students enrolled at the University of Alabama at Birmingham School of Public Health jumped 61 percent in 2020, reflecting the “Fauci effect” and the prominence of public health professionals during the pandemic.

Enrollment in epidemiology, the study of how diseases spread, jumped 92 percent at UAB.

“It is no surprise that a worldwide pandemic created interest in the field of public health,” said Dr. Paul Erwin, dean of the UAB School of Public Health.

According to U.S. News and World Report, the UAB School of Public Health ranks 17th in the nation. The school offers undergraduate and graduate programs in epidemiology, biostatistics, health behaviors and policy.

The increased interest in public health professions was greater in Alabama than in other parts of the country. According to the Association of Schools and Programs of Public Health, applications to graduate programs increased by just 23 percent nationwide last year compared to 2019.

Across the country, interest in health careers rose during the pandemic. Applications to medical schools also increased in 2020 as health professionals battled the spread of COVID-19."

We’re going to need them, because I think a lot of old pros in the field are about to cash out after the nightmarish treatment they’ve endured since last spring.

My longtime doctor simply said he was unavailable starting last April and then two months ago said he was retiring. He wasn’t going to be the guy in the cop movie who gets shot on his last case, I’m guessing.

I have friends in public health. They had a hard year, truly busy - battles with difficult people early, vaccine clinics in the spring - but also one in which they knew, every day, what they did mattered. Like, really mattered. And that's about all you can ask for. It beat going around to restaurants and writing up folks for violations.

People want significance. For all the shit he took, you think Fauci trades the job in? Not for a second.

You think Fauci's family, which has been subject to death threats, feels the same way?

    The man is 80.

There is ZERO reason for him to do this unless it's what he wants. If he hasn't "traded the job in," it's because he doesn't want to, regardless of what his family thinks.
