Problem is that it'll happen in some small town in which the locals are Trumpists and therefore don't care about their friends or neighbors but will crawl all over one another to get into that jury pool so they can acquit the defendant.

Gov defends pandemic policies as Montana remains national hotspot
Montana has around 2,100 Covid-19 deaths, according to JHU's dashboard. That old Thoreau line (whose source predated "Civil Disobedience" by at least a decade) is getting quite the workout these days.

Prepare for a million “Why should I get the jab? It didn’t help Colin Powell!” takes.

Sadly, this is going to prove all too accurate.

I’m just about done trying to argue society out of natural selection. A few weeks after vaccines are widely available for younger children, I suspect I will be all the way done.

Now, here's what I find interesting about this tweet.

There have been lockdowns all over Australia. I know people who are in them. They wear masks outside. They can't go many places. It's extremely restrictive.

The response here is from a general minister of the Northern Territory, that is 548, 120 square miles of mostly jungle/desert. It's twice the size of Texas - population 29 million - and has...247,000 people in it. Now, it's pretty amazing the NT has had no deaths from COVID - I'm not sure how they know that, but pretty amazing - but the NT would only need 596 deaths to equal the death rate of Texas.

The real irritating thing is the comment on lockdowns. Well, of course the NT doesn't have them. It has 2.2 people for every square mile of land. It is one of the least-densely populated places in the world. Melbourne has been under a 262-day lockdown, which is what Cruz was referring to. Is Cruz an ass? Oh yes. Is he an opportunist? Absolutely. He's all the bad things bad people are, etc, etc. But Twitter specializes in amplifying bad faith arguments on both sides, but especially the left's side.

There is an argument to be made that Melbourne and Australia have done the right thing through a distinct choice to protect human life at all costs for a brief period of time - a kind of pandemic-imposed prohibition, enforced to the nth degree by the federal government. There are drawbacks to it, and drawbacks to Texas, too. But it is not a choice the Northern Territory has to face.

Listen, mate, Australia ain't exactly the Texas of the Pacific. Savvy? See, Down Under, voting is mandatory. Not like in the Lone Star Voter Repressor State. And they've had a woman running the show in this century.
