That assumes everyone a) knows the right and wrong side of history and b) is willing to believe the right side is the right side.

See also human created climate change

Or about every other thing Trump Republicans say about anything

When the dude does nothing but lie and people who should call him a liar because they know it’s a lie don’t, it is inherently hard to believe then even when they say something true. And when they do say something remotely true, you have to consider the motives behind it. Is it true police have a difficult and almost impossible job? Yes. Is it also true conservatives are so fervent because BLM has called police into question? Yes.

None of that has anything to do with the original opinion expressed. But keep on with it.

No, not testifying 'on behalf of the Democrats' at all. Have you watched any of it. All the testimony is backed up by all of the witnesses. Has not one frickin thing to do with D or R. People all testifying under oath, saying the same thing. It is all about the truth of the matter.
but nevermind, I forgot this was the covid thread.

You know, reading this thread, I’m reminded of a quote by Dick Howser: “I never second guess myself, because nobody has ever proven that the second guess will work.”

Let’s keep in mind something: Nobody had any clue about what this virus could do or how it would affect anyone in March 2020. We didn’t know if it’d be a minor sniffle or if it would wipe out half of the world’s population.

Extreme precautions were done to prevent what an awful lot of people thought would be a worldwide disaster. And as is, more than 1 million people have died in the US and millions more have had their health affected; perhaps permanently. We have hundreds of people die per day and now we just shrug our shoulders. If we had a terrorist attack in a sports stadium or arena each and every day in which hundreds were killed, we’d be shitting ourselves. Instead, it’s “eh, oh well.”

Meanwhile, there are a bunch of second-guessers who are saying “we told you so!”, even though nobody had a clue what would happen in real time and we all know they would also be screeching “you should have locked down!” if kids were starting to die and millions more were dying. The screechers flip-flop multiple times a day.

In other words, it’s useless to second guess. Nobody can prove that the second guess would work.

There are several levels to the climate change thingy. Unfortunately, each party labels the other as 1. or 9.

    1. Climate change isn't happening and is just a hoax.
    2. Climate change is real but it's the natural part of a planetary cycle. Man cannot even weaken or change the direction of a tiny hurricane. He sure cannot change an entire planetary climate.
    3. Climate change is real and natural, and man could be making it worse. But since by default energy demands will never decrease, it can't be stopped.
    4. Climate change is real, and man is partially responsible. But the timeline and overall estimated effects are exaggerated and/or impossible to know. It's Y2K hysteria all over again.
    5. Climate change is real, and man is primarily responsible. Some places will suffer; other places will benefit.
    6. Climate change is real, and man is totally responsible. But the only adjustment man can make is to move to the most advantageous places.
    7. Climate change is real, and man is totally responsible. But we still have decades to fix it before it gets truly out of hand.
    8. Climate change is real, and man is totally responsible. If we do not alter our means of energy consumption in the next decade, it could have devastating global effects.
    9. Man-made climate change is the No. 1 crisis facing humanity. If we do not dramatically alter our behavior immediately, we will face massive flooding and famine in a short time.

Badly worded on my part. Meant to say simply, "Saying things Democrats agree with." Then all of a sudden they're not "all traitors and fascists."

Yes. Until they can show that they have rejoined us in reality.

It would have been nice if "Exercise! Get outdoors and build up your immune system get your body in the best shape possible!" would have been encouraged instead of closing playgrounds and forcing people . . . indoors to spend more time exposed to sick family members.

I'm willing to forgive a lot of the initial response in 2020, from both political parties, because there was a bit of a panic. We didn't know exactly how this thing would play out. An extra dose of caution was certainly warranted. You can debate when that period passed, but the first six months or so you can justify some of it.

What I do object to, is the political party that has continually pushed for lockdowns and schools to remain closed, even into 2022; pulled lone surfers out of the water and ticketed them because of supposed COVID concerns; actively used the weight of government from the local level to the federal to punish, censor and ostracize those who dared to question any of this; and took those same actions against people who suggested certain treatments (see Joe Rogan and the ivermectin thing for one small example); and proudly did all of these things under the always-fun banner of "If it saves ONE life!" ... now suddenly proclaiming they did none of these freedom-crushing things and in fact did the exact opposite. It's damned Orwellian.

People here are saying Republicans and Trump told lies and they're evil. That's a totally separate debate. Ignoring the blatant lies now coming from your own side makes you no better than those you despise. It might even make it worse, because you're putting yourself in a mental position to eventually justify the same behavior or worse.

But that's the thing, scientists largely eliminate the first four of those. The fifth and sixth are borne out of an unwillingness to change behavior and the true debate rests largely in 7-9. However, we have too many sitting in 1-4 because people in those categories don't want to change behavior so they believe those or companies don't want to stop making money on oil and coal so they believe those or politicians are making money off of those companies and have constituents who are in denial so they believe or perpetuate those. It isn't out of science.

And that's my point. There is a right side of history with this, but there are too many people who are dishonest which prevents us from moving toward the right side of history.

Except I was responding to you. I know the original opinion was Trump made the school reopening a shit show because all he does is lie. It was your response to that line of thinking that I was commenting on. Yes, when one party embraces a lying liar, you can't trust a damn thing they say. And I'm sorry I gave examples of what I was talking about. Thought maybe, just maybe it would make my point clearer. But sure, I didn't explicitly follow to the T the original point, but neither did you.

It took a few months for them to figure out that the risk was less when outdoors instead of indoors.

Like I said, everyone was flying by the seat of their pants on this.
