There isn't a fight to be had about whether the lab leak theory was originally viewed as acceptably viable by most media organizations or, really, anyone in power.

It's not like I'm sure it came from a lab. I'm not. What I'm sure of is, you don't have some random LAT columnist calling it a "zombie theory" if it were originally viable.

I remember the summer of 2020, the pain that ensued, and also the debates we had. Robust debates over Olive Gardens, people partying too hard in the Ozarks or Major League Baseball games putting a nation at risk. But it was not primarily "now, how can leverage China to get access to the data necessary to discern whether that government covered up how the virus began?"

"WHY WEREN'T PEOPLE TALKING ABOUT THE THING I WANTED THEM TO TALK ABOUT?!"

    "They were."

    "BUT NOT LIKE THAT!"

    Eh. We really weren't tho.

And that's part of the deal with these discussions. The terms and scope of the debate can't even be agreed to.

Is there any new information on the lab theory? Just rehashing what little is known and will likely ever be known?

This entire “debate” is masturbation. And not the good kind.

My main memory is people arguing against it being an intentionally released bio weapon. Which continues to be absurd.

Were people here constantly stifling debate regarding any kind of lab leak origin? Or just an intentional leak? I don't remember wading often into the COVID debates.

Leveraging China's government is a job for our government.

And no column on the OpEd page of the Times or the St. Louis Post Dispatch - however stern or earnest - was going to convince Trump and his crew to do so.
