Horrible news conference. He was talking out of both sides of his mouth, as usual.

My district just switched to food pickup once a week for families. With the pickup they get a bag with lunches and breakfasts that (in theory) could feed five children for five days. We had maybe 140 to 150 bags of each. Gone in an hour. We basically used an honor system for families. They just had to tell us how many children they were picking up for. Five or less kids got one bag of each. Two bags if you had more than five. One eager woman came through asking for enough for eight kids. We gave her two bags and she left. She came back a short time later asking for 8 kids. The workers called her on it and she tried to claim it was for another family.

I don't know how many families we had to turn away. We promised food would be available for two hours. Just heartbreaking but it's where we are.

Long lines already at stores. I went about a half hour before the announcement. I'm good for a few days, but not 2 1/2 weeks. At least other cities haven't announced similar moves and those stores will stay open. But this is ridiculous.

Not sure he really thought that one out! But it doesn't surprise me.

Kansas City and most of its suburban counties (both in Missouri and Kansas — Jackson, Johnson, Wyandotte, Cass among them) enter 30-day a stay-at-home order starting tonight. Announcement came Saturday, so people were given some warning.

Above: Liquor store a block from my place.

Below: Lines forming outside pot shops, too.

Is stay at home no grocery shopping?

Non-essential businesses have to close all on-premises operations. Stores selling groceries, auto supplies, home supplies, etc. are considered essential.

Grocery stores are still open. In most places, if not all places, restaurants with takeout and liquor stores are too. In Denver the mayor decided to close liquor stores, although it sort of seems like he possibly wasn't prepared for that exact question. He even told people to go out and stock up before the stay at home order started. It's created a bit of a panic in the area with those flocking to liquor stores. There hasn't been clarification if grocery stores can still sell alcohol, but I'm guessing they can.

Grocery stores remain open. Restaurants can remain open for takeout and delivery.

Gas stations and transportation open. Parks are still open. The mayor was double talking about enforcement. Said people can still go out and exercise, walk dogs as long as there's social distancing.

Italy may have reached an inflection point: the number of new cases is down for two days in a row. But the source of the story is The Hill, so I refuse to link to it.

The enforcement was another one he wasn't prepared for. What did he prepare for? And I'm guessing not too many people get arrested for being out, but I guess we'll see.
