Pretty interesting around here today, apparently. There was a massive run on the stores in Manatee County -- wiping out the usual items: milk, bread, toilet paper, paper towels. We were about to take a trip up to the Dollar General but were told there wasn't a roll of TP left. Good thing we have the campground's supplies.

We'll have to monitor what happens next. Maybe it'll be easier to get to the beach this week.

I was in Atlanta on Saturday at the Olympic marathon trials races. Thousands of people, plus about 700 runners from around the country, probably many of whom had compromised immune systems from running 100+-miles/week. Great event if you're into competitive running, btw.

So a cadet at Sarasota Military Academy in Florida has been quarantined because his Mom had contact with a coronavirus patient. Which wouldn't be a big deal in itself had Mike Pence, head of our country's virus efforts, not visited the Academy last Friday where he, you guessed it, shook hands with the cadets.

"Dr. Anthony Fauci, director of the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases and a member of the White House’s coronavirus task force, told NBC Nightly News’ Richard Engel Monday that the illness — which has infected 100 people, killing six in the US — is “an evolving situation.”

“We’re dealing with clearly an emerging infectious disease that is now reached outbreak proportions and likely pandemic proportions,” he said. “If you look at, you know, by multiple definitions of what a pandemic is, the fact is this is multiple sustained transmissions of a highly infectious agent in multiple regions of the globe.”

One computer sim predicts 70 percent of the world's population will be infected at various levels by COVID-19 before scientists find a vaccine. "Evolving situation" may be understating it.

He remembers the days of lawmakers hurling barbs across party lines about the AIDS response. But today, “the degree of divisiveness is one of almost an emotional dislike of the other person,” he said.

    Republicans
reportedly stormed out of a recent closed-door briefing on the infection after Rep. Rosa DeLauro (D-Conn.) ripped into the administration’s coronavirus response.

Now would probably be a good time for these people to stop acting like fucking babies. They can continue to do it for a bunch of other things, but not this.
