This is one of the major, most glaring, and, frankly, difficult to fathom changes (even with what's going on) happening right now because of the coronavirus.

My brother experienced chest pains a couple weeks ago and went to the hospital. He underwent some tests and had a stent put in. While the doctor was doing that, he noticed another (probably) congenital problem: a small hole in his heart that the doctor said some percentage of people have but often never know about, unless they have some kind of difficulty, and he wanted to repair that, as well.

Anyway, my brother underwent the heart surgery, stayed in hospital overnight, and that was it. They sent him home the next day! Because they don't want people staying in the hospitals right now, and they're doing everything possible to discharge as many people as possible, as quickly as possible, no matter what, assuming you seem to be doing OK. We, the family, could not believe it. I mean, we got it, and even, to an extent, understood. But it really is difficult to fathom.

So, I totally got it when I saw that nurse televised, getting emotional, about how people, even those in loving, caring families, were dying, alone, without anyone present, or even allowed to be present, because of the coronavirus. It's something that's been unheard of previously.

And the same was true of my brother's heart surgery. The hospital was on lockdown, and no one, not even the family, including his wife, was allowed to visit him in the hospital, either before or after the surgery. And it's as difficult for the families as for the actual patients. My/our mom struggled with it, saying, "I feel like I should be there. You know?"

Yeah, I know. It's necessary, maybe, but still really crazy.

Stayed away from our busy trail and rode on back roads instead. I'm not going near the Capital trail until this is done. No chance of social distancing there.

Stephen Miller went to my high school, as did John Ehrlichman. Neither are highly thought of.
However, we also have a couple of astronauts, a bunch of actors including a large portion of the Brat Pack, and athletes such as Rick Monday, Dennis Thurman and Dennis Smith.

I think someone could put trump on tilt just by asking him to explain what the hell jared meant.

British Prime Minister Boris Johnson admitted to hospital. "For tests" it is said.
Boston Mayor Marty Walsh requests all citizens wear masks or cover faces with cloth when they go out. Mandatory 9 p.m.-6 a.m. curfew. Parks closed.

I'm still not sure what is going to happen with the arrival of my little brother's second child. His wife is scheduled to deliver by C-section Tuesday. That plan hasn't changed, but they still aren't sure if my brother is going to be allowed in with her. Obviously, my sister-in-law is very upset about having to bring their child into the world without her husband present. We are all worried about the baby, too.

Pardon me for quoting my own post, but we just got an update. My neighbor who died this weekend, it was from COVID-19. I don't know if his wife and daughter have been tested yet. I'm torn between being sad for them and thinking that this was literally way too fucking close to home.

Are you okay with feeling both?

Also, hoping for the best for your brother's family.

That's pretty much the definition of "too close to home".
