Maher's flaw here is that this wasn't being called the Chinese virus except by the Trumpists. I had only heard it called the coronavirus or COVID-19 until the president and others started calling it the Chinese virus during briefings and TV appearances. It was pretty clear they were calling it that to pass blame onto someone else, in this case the Chinese. Remember the photo of Trump's statement in which he crossed out coronavirus and replaced it with Chinese virus?
