The students who want to learn are learning. The opportunities are there. From what I hear, our elementary schools get pretty good student participation.
I have seniors, and the full engagement is less than 20%.
Our problem is when the call went out, the director of schools told the students there would be no penalty for not completing assignments, and their grades could not be lower than they were when we left. It frustrates the living hell out of me.
I had one kid, who isn't bad ... he's a scholar for sure, but not bad ... message me the first day we were out and flat out said he wasn't doing any assignments.

And emergency rooms don’t need to be dealing with withdrawal patients right now.

Think about it. In 20 years, the country will be run by people who were home-schooled by alcoholics.

 

I self medicate with alcohol and weed. It helps me a bit when it all gets too much. I'm not a drunk or a junkie.

Having the liquor store open is helpful to people like me. Sure, I could buy a six pack or a bottle of wine at the grocery. The folks at the ABC are getting their paycheck, the state is getting the tax money, and I can get some amaretto or a bottle of Tanqueray. Add that the ABC employees are less exposed than the workers virtually any other store that I have been in lately.

 

Maybe there are good reasons to open up the country now.
