    "cases"

    Fuck me. Thrice.

Are "deaths" setting "new records?" Deaths aren't skewed by how much/little testing is done.

Hopefully deaths don't get to record numbers and even with cases steady across the country deaths have been down. But deaths come weeks after the cases. Also, some of these records are with very high positive rates, which also means it's not just an uptick in testing. They aren't good numbers and at the very least mean this thing is far from going away. But you know that.

We EXPECT cases to go up with 1. more testing AND 2. more places opening. This is not an "I told you so!" thing. It is 100 percent expected, and it's a compromise most people have decided is acceptable. We seem to have a better handle on the nursing home issue, so I expect these "record cases" to come with far fewer deaths. Because they are by and large among younger, healthier people.

I like the assumption that there's more testing. In Arkansas, we ramped up testing a month ago. But the number of infections is just now increasing. Yet people still trot out the "increased testing accounts for that." They ignore the increasing hospitalizations and sky-high positivity rates for the tests.

7/14 day average positives of 10% or more tells the tale, as well as increases in the 7 day new infections.

More tests = more cases, absolutely true. Also, the number of new cases is outdistancing the number of new tests; which, as pointed out, was expected with the reopenings.

Is that really an acceptable compromise? I’m not young, but I’m healthy, and I damn sure don’t want to get this thing. I don’t want my (adult) kids getting this thing. I don’t want any of you to get this thing. Even if it doesn’t kill you, it sucks, and with so many unknowns about its long-term effects, it’s truly not something to just say “oh well” about.

I get all that. But people like Chris Cuomo don't do anybody any favors by continuing to work every night for the two weeks that he had it. Only reenforces the "not that serious" perspective.

My wife's oldest sister is in a nursing home with dementia. We just got the call that she's tested positive.

    Shit just got real.

Pray tell, how many of the current cases in NC would you attribute to Chris Cuomo working from his basement 6 weeks ago?
