Why There Are So Many Different Guidelines For Face Masks For The Public

"To understand why mask guidelines have been so varied, NPR reached out to specialists in academia and in government. What we learned is that face mask guidelines are about science — but go beyond. The reasons for a policy may have to do with practical considerations like the national supply of masks but may also reflect cultural values and history."

You can make one in 10 minutes. Next time keep Hobby Lobby open.

Now, I'm not sure about you, but I happen to believe on medical matters, the Surgeon General carries more weight than a reality show TV president.

I'm challenging your timeline, not your Home Ec skills. And you can't make hospital-quality PPE at home.

Masks and gloves were in short supply by mid-February. In part because people had enough sense to buy them. But also because the government hadn't thought to stockpile them.

You want a Surgeon General's order to mask in mid-March?

    Too late.

People aren't wearing hospital-quality PPE now by and large, so why is/was that ever an issue? The large bin of masks you see as you walk into Walmart sure aren't hospital-quality PPE.

He said on Feb. 29: "Stop buying masks!"

Had he said, "People, covering your face in public is very important, and I'm going to urge governors throughout the country to make this mandatory. In the meantime, if you cannot find a face covering online or in stores, you can make one from materials around the house. Please take care of yourself --- and those around you --- by doing so." . . . thousands of lives would have been saved. And note that the words should have been "face coverings."

It struck me how this time of year we're hip-deep in summer blockbusters and various cross-promotions at fast-food restaurants, Slurpee cups etc. This year, the "Zeitgeist Derby" is Coronavirus 19, Black Lives Matter and I guess the election a distant third. And that's pretty much it for Pop Culture. Are musical artists releasing new material even?

At this point, it must be said: I was wrong. I think more teachers in the last week are being more vocal about their opposition to returning to school. This is concurrent with (at long last) calls for kids to get back to school.

At any rate, I was wrong. The teacher desire rate is definitely lower than I thought it was.

Makes sense; I mean who doesn't think the metal detectors at airports cause a false sense of security and should be removed immediately!

Owner of a nice restaurant here went in front of the county commission this week and compared having to wear a mask in public to the Nazis and what they did to the Jews. This guy did some great stuff during the shutdown, providing huge boxes of food and meals to at risk people for very reasonable amounts of money. But I'm not going to eat at his restaurant again. When we were going to go out last week, our first trip out, we were initially going to go to his place but based on what I was seeing in the parking lot, I didn't see there was any way they were actually distancing the tables. So we went somewhere else. And I'm guessing they're not distancing the tables based on his inning comparison to wearing a mask during a global health crisis to the fucking Nazis murdering the Jews

Other nations can show us what will happen when schools reopen in the fall. They can also show us how to deal with it - if we are willing to learn from people who aren't Real Amurrahcans.
