Also what happened the last time, while we all weren't talking about gun control, was a 41 percent spike in purchase-related background checks in Colorado. So now is not the time to talk about guns. It's only the time to buy guns.

But aren't you the one telling me that the frequency of an activity is not affected by its legal status?

I just can't believe how stunning this is. I mean, we're almost used to high school shootings because on some level, we all can understand that bullying is a huge issue.

But someone walking into an elementary school and wiping out a class full of five-year-olds 10 days before Christmas? I can't even wrap my mind around it. I don't even want to drag myself to my game tonight.

One of the thoughts I had too, could you imagine being a cop or a state policeman who had kids at that school? Jesus.

    I agree with 93Devil.

Will someone please tell us just when exactly is the proper time to inact a ban or guns. How many more shootings do we have to live through?

I'm just saying that if you think this is the ultimate answer (legalization of drugs) to that problem, are you ready for that cultural impact?

    It's a tremendous column.

(H)olding back your tears, you said this: I react to news like this, “not as a president, but as a parent.”

God, that is unbelievably wrong. React as a president.

What cultural impact? The collapse of the illegal drug trade and the violence and crime networks that come with it? As was the case when we ended Prohibition?

Oh, we'll probably see someone go into a day care center within a week in a copy cat. It just shows what sick shits we have in this country that such a concept is possible. Just saw this : Guiliani just said on FoxNews that everyone should realize the enormity of a problem like this, lay down their prejudices and approach the problem with due humility so that at least we can begin getting on the same page.

I'd read somewhere that an assault weapons ban just wasn't on Obama's radar/agenda/whatever. Sadly, the cynic in me doesn't think this event changes that.

If we legalized drugs, there would be more drugs.

    And less violence.

If we outlawed abortions, there would be less abortions.

If we outlawed guns, there would be less guns.
