Fox reporting that, according to the Feds, kid lived with his mom in Newtown. He shot her in the face at her home this morning then drove to the school and opened fire. No known motive at this point.

Father is alive and speaking with authorities.

What makes you say this? Most of these shooters end up shooting themselves if they are not shot first, why would they care if some 3rd grade teacher had a fucking gun in their desk? Just give it the fuck up. We are the only country in the world where these things happen over and over and over again. We will continue to be the only country where these things happen over and over and over again until some leaders grow some fucking balls and call the stupid asshole gun lover a stupid asshole gun lover and ban these human killing machines. I am fucking embarrassed to be an a American today...we as a country are an absolute disgrace. And I am sorry for probably getting this thread locked but fuck anyone that is too fucking stupid to figure this thing out.

Not a typical case. As horrifying as Columbine and Aurora were, the age of these latest victims means the emotions are likely to be more significant and long-lasting, which I think will lead to some change.

Or would you rather nothing happen so you can keep bitching, moaning and exploiting?

Anyone who thinks banning guns is going to stop these killings is a fucking moron. Norway has some of the most strict gun control laws in the civilized world, and that did not stop some dipshit from killing 77 people last year.

And all the changes that came about because of this:

You can keep the cheap shot bullshit out of it, but as your last paragraph shows, I guess you can't.

I'd love to see change. You're the one saying let's not talk about it.

Please compare the number of mass shootings in Norway vs. the United States.

Colorado governor came out, coincidentally, yesterday that's he's flipped and is ready for tighter restrictions in the state, and will likely get it with the flip in the legislature.

Wow. These types of comments really piss me off. Please read this again and while you are at it, please compare/contrast the number of shootings in Norway and the US. Thank you. Signed a "Fucking Moron"

Again...when all the reporting clears up on this thing and we see the full picture of how it happened...like I said on page 2...it'll be different than the others. It's going to be the guns this time. But we'll see if a real solution is hammered out, or emotional bleating takes over. If boils down to histrionics, I assure you, the gun lobby has the advantage.

I've spent the last six hours sad, angry and confused. I didn't feel the immediate need to turn this tragedy into political sniping. I probably shouldn't have said the last paragraph in my previous post, but I get the sense some around here would rather change NOT come about so they have an issue to flog every time there is a tragedy like this.

I bet if you asked most people with whom you normally disagree politically if they'd favor stricter gun controls in light of what happened, they'd say yes. And that's a good thing, right? It's better than automatically assuming they wouldn't agree and picking a needless fight.
