"Newtown passion may officially be gone."

Wow. Good thing we weren't supposed to talk about it after it happened!

There is a difference between talking about it and using it. There wasn't much of the former, and a whole lot of the latter. Still is.

In no way do I want to see those photos, but I also understand what these photos were able to accomplish.

    Exactly.

There seems to be some sentiment that there is a sense of honor and/or nobility in not being interested in seeing the Newtown photos.

Just like there was honor and/or nobility in not wanting to talk about policy matters in the immediate aftermath of Newtown.

Meanwhile, freed of the burden of actually having to face what occurred there that afternoon, we've all moved onto Snookie's temperance.

Really? I'd put the number at 100 percent of people.

As far as feeling differently about it - I assume you mean the subsequent policy views - I concede that the number is less than 100 percent.

Do you have to use the most graphic photo? No. But that OKC photo reminds me every time I see it that we have some real monsters in this country who are just as dangerous as what we like to think is overseas.

After the Oklahoma City bombing I was pretty pissed off and disgusted. After I saw the Porter photo I burst into tears and it completely changed the way I looked at what had happened. I still get choked up when I see that photo, especially having a five year-old and three year-old.

  8. If you've seen the Hostel series and think the gore is awesome, pics likes these aren't going to move the needle.

But, at some point either viewing horrific things in person or through pictures gave you an understanding of these things.

So, while maybe you don't need to see every picture (and maybe you personally didn't need to see any pictures, based on what you've seen in real life), but how would we understand how horrible war is if we'd never seen a single picture?

So the real reason y'all do your own shooting now is you convinced management pictures don't add anything? "Fire the photogs; all anyone needs is my story."

There is a difference in the photos that Devil posted and the newton photos.

The photos posted are shoys of the news as it unfolded. Tthe Newton photos being requested to be scene are of the aftermath. I still can't grasp why anyone needs to see pics of mutilated school children to make it real.

Maybe I am too over sensitized.
