He says he hates it because Dr. Z used to do it. Whether he actually hates it? Who knows?

I absolutely think the SI mock draft is the gold standard.

Your standards are very low, then.

Then again, all mock drafts are guesswork, so SI's isn't really all that different from the others. Personally, though, I'd trust Banks' draft information and insight before I trust King's.

King says Mallett will be picked anywhere between 5 and 49. Good call.

z's mock was the gold standard. always. amazingly insightful/accurate for one done so many days before the draft. man, do i miss his leatherhead football insights. overall.

peter does a great job. kill him all you'd like -- and god knows SportsJournalists.com loves to kill him -- but the man is a tireless workhorse. it's a no-win deal when you're trying to fill the shoes of dr. z in this endeavor.

Good points, shockey. And don't get me wrong. I read MMQB every week. King's good. Just not at the draft stuff, in my opinion. And he admits that he's not good at draft stuff; not just that he can't fill Z's shoes, but that he hates dealing with the lying and deceit that comes with trying to put together a mock draft.

But I agree, Z's mock was the gold standard. If there can be one, anyway.

I think Jake Locker will go anywhere between 3rd and 47th.

Click print on that story, and it becomes much more manageable to look at.

Castonzo should go three? Wow, has that kid's stock climbed.

King was one of the few who projected Tebow to go in the first round last year. I think he also wrote in MMQB that Tebow would go No. 30 to Minnesota unless Denver or (I forget the other team) trades ahead of them to pick him. He wrote that more than a week before the draft.

I love how he's projecting trades and stuff like that. He may be wrong on all of it, but it makes for a much more interesting read than the other mocks out there.

That one got my attention. So did him calling Dalton the best QB in the draft.

There's got to be some donk somehwere who has nothing else to do but keep track of how accurate all these mock drafts end up being, right? Gotta be.

Never trust a dirty ginger to be your starting QB.

It wouldn't surprise me. We used to take the mocks of all of the beat writers covering the team I was covering and see how we did against each other. We did how many picks did we get right and how many of the guys we projected to go in the first round actually went in the first round.

I loved it the year my chain had me do a mock draft against a reader, who proceeded to kick my ass.

Mock drafts have untold amounts of potential when it comes to gambling, too.
