MU's Gabbert Goes Pro/Year of the QB-- NFL Draft Thread 11

Discussion in 'Sports and News' started by Deeper_Background, Jan 3, 2011.

  1. Speaking of Gabbert... SI is saying the Redskins are looking to trade up to 2 to get Gabbert.

What's that saying about what you hear the final two weeks leading up to the draft?

LaConfora was saying that yesterday, too. And the only thing I saw on SI is the truth and rumors blog that simply links to other outlets. SI isn't "reporting it". They're pulling a Florio and reporting that someone else is reporting it.

Maybe they don't get Woodley if they fork over that second-round pick to trade up to get Revis.

Did the Jets give up a 2nd-rounder in that deal?

No way it should cost a 2nd-round pick to move up one spot in the first round.

The New York Jets traded their first-round selection, a second-round and a fifth-round pick (25th, 59th, and 164th overall, used to select Jon Beason, Ryan Kalil, and Tim Shaw, respectively) to Carolina for Carolina's first- and sixth-round selections (14th and 191st overall, used to select Darrelle Revis and Korey Hall, respectively).

So yes, the Jets did give up a second-rounder to move up and draft Revis.

Buying Revis Island for a 2nd rounder is right up there with the deal Peter
Minuit struck with the indians to buy Manhattan Island.

Ah, then I feel better about the whole thing given how important Woodley has been to that team.

Any chance the concept of the NFL Draft collapses in the next hours since there are no rules in place?

  10. I do not understand ...
I have read several mock drafts that say carolina will relucantly pick Newton ...
Like this one from Don Banks ...
    Why?
Why pick Newton No. 1 if you aren't sold on him and have needs elsewhere? I do not understand this line of thinking.
if nonody is willing to trade up fro Newton, don't pick him ... Fill your needs. As has already been pointed out, Carolina is gonna be in a hellava shape with two young QBs on their roster. Esp. when Newtown flames out alongside Clausen and Carolina is back here again.

I think Banks explained it perfectly.

People keep talking about Clausen like he's Sam Bradford.

There are plenty of reasons to pass on Cam Newton. Having Clausen is not one of them.
