I have never understood that logic.

If you asked me who were the two best players the Steelers put on the field in the last 25 years, I would tell you Rod Woodson and Troy Polamalu, and it really would not take that long to come up with those two names.

And it wasn't like they were "sleepers" coming out of college either. They were the best at their position, or second best, coming out of college, but fell because of the "not supposed to draft them high" logic.

Punter and kicker are the only two positions I would not draft in the top 10. Everything else, even center, would be fair game.

Now would I draft a center #1 overall? I'm not going to go that far, but hopefully you get what I am saying.

  2. At this point, I'm not even sure it's about who's No. 1. It's supply and demand.
And I don't think there is a whole lot of demand for Newton, as opposed to Peterson, Green or Dareus.

A DB has gone No. 1 in the draft once.

If anyone knows who is was without looking it up, give a guess...

The Panthers do not need to pick anyone who they don't fully believe in - if Banks is correct. He's guessing along with many of us.

If they don't completely buy into Newton, take Patrick Peterson and to hell with conventional thinking in this instance. He's a player that can be used immediately, can be backed with conviction and who takes out plenty of question marks. The last thing anyone in Charlotte needs is a reason to ask more questions. And picking Cam Newton will do that.

And putting a draft pick on the trading block is ridiculous. If a franchise wanted a player that badly, they can trade for the pick. This isn't the NBA ... you pick players for your franchise, not for someone else's.

    Liut,

Completely, completely agree on Von Miller. But with Jon Beason, Thomas Davis (IF the knee has healed and the ACL doesn't tear for a third time), James Anderson and Dan Connor, LB is one of the strong points of the roster (along with RB if DeAngelo Williams is re-signed). Miller is a slam-dunk, but given other needs, this shouldn't be an option.

We'll see about Julio Jones. I think A.J. Green has better physical tools.

I do and I agree. Is Darrelle Revis not worthy of going No. 1? Was Ronnie Lott not worthy of going No. 1? Same with Polamalu...

I don't understand it, but they just seem to think they can get an elite DB later in the first or early in the second round and history tends to support that thinking. It's similar, but not as extreme at WR.

Dang, Mizzou, I'm so tempted to search. But I won't cheat. Dick Lane?

I'd be surprised if Rick Gosselin knew the answer.

Sam stated the case for Peterson well. Panthers need to show some guts.
