I've had this cassette in the rotation lately.

Rock 'N' Roll Stew solid, too.

Trivia gold: Dire Straits' debut album was produced by Muff Winwood, Steve's older brother.

Traffic had a terrific knack for blending jazz, rock and English folk, as in "John Barleycorn Must Die" and this tune off of Low Spark. I especially like the way the band shifted from the folkie mood to a funky jazz beat at the end of the track.

I've been getting a lot of mileage out of a TuneIn Radio channel called SomaFM: Left Coast '70s. A lot of Joni Mitchell, Karla Bonoff, Linda Ronstadt, Al Stewart, ELO, etc. And a LOT of deep cuts.

But one guy who I think I really underappreciated was the late Andrew Gold. Most of us know the sappy stuff like "Thank You For Being A Friend" and "Lonely Boy," but this guy did some great songs in addition to being a key component of Ronstadt's band. And this song, I can't believe it never charted.

Gold wrote this when he started dating Laraine "SNL" Newman. The couple lasted about seven minutes after the song was released.

And none other than Dave Grohl has called this as close to perfect a pop song as has ever been written.
