    RHCP "Stadium Arcadium"
I bought this the day it came out and played the entire thing that afternoon. The problem was I wasn't paying enough attention to it to really get a feel for it. But I know it's at least great as background music.

    Aware: The Compilation
I stumbled across this a couple weeks ago and finally started listening to the discs. There is some really good stuff on here. For anyone who hasn't heard of them, back in 1994, some guy started taking a bunch of songs from the college radio genre and putting out a compilation each year. He has since put out a total of 11 discs. Some of the bands on here include Hootie and the Blowfish, Train, Guster, Dave Matthews (backup singer), Matchbox 20 (with a previous name), Jack Johnson, Better Than Ezra, Shawn Mullins, Edwin McCain Band, and these songs are all from before they made it big, so their songs sound a little different.

    Abdel Wright
I can't remember the name of the album right now, but I got it about six months ago and I love it. He's sort of a reggae/folk guy. By far my favorite song on the album is "Dust Under Carpet"

I'm really glad this thread was created. Of course, this is going to cause me to go bankrupt pretty soon as I buy a shitload of CDs. I just acquired a few more CDs, but haven't listened to them -- Wolf Parade, Pulp and Ryan Adams -- and I'm looking forward to picking up the new Pearl Jam album eventually.

A couple other recent acquisitions worthy of mentioning are The Magic Numbers' self-titled album, We Are Scientists' new one and Morningwood's new one.

    Currently listening to -- Son Volt's "A Retrospective: 1995-2000"

just got back from pj at the united center. what a great show, arguably the best show i have seen and this is my sixth time seeing them. their new stuff IS incredible live, i saw jeremy played live for the first time. the place was packed, mike was jumping around like he was 19, ed had no monumental fuckups, opener was release, final encore was baba o'riley and YL. state of love and trust was my personal favorite, and the new porch rocked, and the rarities i saw were low light and i'm open.

as far as arenas go, the united center is a great place to see a show. sound is great, place is somewhat clean and modern, and doesn't reek like a urinal (sup joe louis?).

Song Seven, I'm glad you posted that. I thought about how the songs would song live on the drive home from work the other night. As I went through "Gone" and "Army Reserve" on the interstate, the more I listened to the CD, the more I could definitely hear how they would rock live.

    But then, like PJ wouldn't.

Yes, the V-Roys were Earle's boys. And they kicked ass. In my mind, they are proof that mainstream radio has no taste (I know ... duh).

Have I mentioned how much I'm loving the new RHCP? Because I'm really, really loving it.

Really melodic, isn't it? I love when Frusciante plays a really clean guitar sound, like on the second track here or in some of the classic hits like "Under the Bridge."

Totally agree with you. I had a three-hour drive yesterday and I devoured both discs.

On the ride back this weekend, I'll listen to the new PJ some more and the bootleg of the PJ show in Chicago on Tuesday.

Much different from Prairie Wind. Living With War is not Crazy Horse, but it sounds like it. While PW was an attempt at heavy art, LWW is a howl, written in 3 days, recorded in 6. Early on you may not like it if you don't love the Horse, but by the end you'll get the chills, particularly if you're proud to be an American.

  9. DW, are those Crazy Horse albums (sans Neil) still in print? I've always wondered about grabbing one of those.

really nice call on 6 string drag. saw them open for jason and scorchers in mid-'90s. they were, indeed, on earle's label, and he produced them.

good new album is yayhoos' "put the hammer down." lead singer is dan baird, formerly of georgia satellites. essentially, they're a great bar band. not as good as their first album, though, "fear not the obvious." one of the songs on that one, "hankerin' " is flat-out great.

Good to see Dan Baird back in the game. Loved the Satellites and a show I saw them do on the Open All Night tour at a long-gone suburban Toronto joint called Entex is easily the best club show I've ever seen.

Saw them open for Tom Petty one night and they kicked some serious ass.
