Don't a lot of people use their screen names for Secret Santa? The same anonymity could apply if you so choose.

  2. why not just create a sticky thread where people can use sendspace to upload tracks they like that they think others would like? save all the trouble of burning / packing up / driving to the post office / mailing

    for instance ...

here is the track Many Kindnesses, by Health and Happiness Show:

if you like REM, the Feelies and the Reivers, you'll dig it

Sendspace is good. You could also email ZIP files, with a play list attached in a text format.

I like the idea, and while I like getting exposed to new music, I don't want a whole CD of rap and hip-hop. Maybe something different souding thrown in would be good.

I'm sure not everyone wants to hear an indie band either. I"m up for almost anything.

Genius! I actually thought of that earlier. Since I'm not in the biz and don't work off Macs anymore, can y'all open .rar files?

I suppose it's time for me to pledge my allegiance to some sort of music-sharing group. I do like the most recent ideas of using the Internet to transmit the music instead of the postal service.

I was just sitting on my porch smoking a cigar, it's a beautiful day, and a guy drove by in an old flexed muscle car with the windows down jacking "I'm Goin' Down" by Bruce Springsteen, and I was like, Fucking A.

Plug in a band/artist name and it will give you option of other bands/artists you might like.

  8. This week marks the ten year anniversary of the death of Tim Taylor from the band Brainiac. The band had just signed a deal with Interscope Records and Tim bought himself a new car. He died in that car when the throttle stuck going into a curve and hit a telephone pole. Of the many musicians I have known that are no longer with us Tim's death is the most tragic (most of the others have been from drug overdoses or suicide).
Tim was a heck of a guy...the entire band was. The only time I have ever watched "Starsky and Hutch" was with Brainiac. For those who aren't familiar with the band (and I'm sure that's 99.9% of this board) they were like some bastard amalgamation of Devo and The Jesus Lizard. If you ever come across a copy of the band's "Bonsai Superstar" disc pick it up. You'll be pleasantly surprised.

Awesome. Great fucking song, probably the best one from Born In The USA that nobody remembers because they're listening to "Glory Days" or "Dancing In the Dark" for the 10,000th time.

I remember hearing a bit of buzz about the band and seeing the video for "Vincent, Come On Down"...good stuff.

Here is the bootleg Kanye West mixtape, released to drum up excitement for his Graduation album.

Even if you hated the single I posted, you'll enjoy this mixtape. Many of the songs aren't even Kanye, but some Chicago cats he's helping to expose and some hip-hop veteranss like Talib and Common. I've bolded songs that are worth keeping.
