I hate you. Wilco was playing an hour from me Saturday and I couldn't go because I had to cover a college football game. Cosmo nearly cried.

I really like Queens of the Stone Age a lot, Josh Homme is a bad-ass and "3's and 7's" is a great track...but I was disappointed with that album. I think their albums have been dropping off steadily since "Rated R"

Petty's most recent release was called Highway Companion and the single was "Saving Grace." I L-O-V-E that song!

He and the Heartbreakers kicked ass on the Highway Companion tour last year.

Wildflowers came out a year after Greatest Hits, in '94 or '95.
Is Petty's documentary 3 DVD, 1 CD set out yet? I thought I saw it in a Best Buy ad, but looking at Amazon, I can't find it. See the book, but no DVD set.

EDIT: I see that it is a Best Buy exclusive. Anyone have it?

Lupe's video for Dumb it Down.
Great great song(funny video as well).

  6. I haven't picked it up yet but plan to. I'm only a casual Petty fan but I'll buy anything that Bogdanovich directs.

In completely other musical realms...I have no idea how many SportsJournalists.commers are into black metal. But for the two or three of you that are you need to go to the "Radio Rebellion" tour if it comes to your town. Gojira and Behemoth are the 2nd and 3rd of the four bands performing and are worth the ticket price alone. I made the trek to Satan Tonio on Wednesday since the tour didn't come through the D/FW metromess [why?]. I had seen Gojira earlier this year and they continue to amaze. It was my first time to see Behemoth and I was blown away by their set. No Job For a Cowboy [the headlining act] not so much.

Wilco was out-freakin-standing last night at Voodoo Fest in NOLA. Think my wife even enjoyed it, although it ended at 9:30 with a two-hour commute with an early morning return to work. (I took the day off; she had no vacation days left.)

As I expected, I appreciate the new stuff more having heard it live. There was some really cool guitar interplay in Impossible Germany. They played a lot from "Being There," my favorite Wilco album, so I was a happy camper.

Hammerhead, QOTSA are not nearly as good now as they were with the former bassist. Homme fleeced that lineup, and the last two albums lack that extra oomph that the bassist brought to the band - his name escapes at me at the moment. Songs For the Deaf and R remain by far their strongest albums, IMO.

Nick Oliveri was the ex-bass player for Queens of the Stone Age. The rumor was that Oliveri got kicked out of the band for beating his girlfriend.

that's the name. thanks. ... yeah, that was a nice contradiction by homme. he's getting into fights all the time. granted, don't know that he ever hit a woman.

It's one thing to fight dudes. It's another thing to hit a woman. Any buddy of mine beat up his girlfriend, I would ditch the guy.
