My top 10 CD Picks of the Year look similar to the one Paste put out. Arcade Fire's Neon Bible by far was the best CD of the year. I don't see one though that is on my list, Shock Value by Timbaland. It was one of the best releases this year.

with the Paste list... the three biggest omissions:
    Rod Picott's Summerbirds
    The Nightwatchman's One Man Revolution
    and John Fogerty's Revival

    over-rated-- their No. 1 and 2 albums

under-rated -- Josh Ritter (No. 17) and Romantica (No.58)... those were Nos. 2 and 6 on my list.

Looks like Paste didn't get their Keren Ann CD in the mail.

Keren Ann is great to see live. Saw her at the Atlantic Jazz Festival three years ago and she was phenomenal. If you are a fan, go check her out.

    Not a bad list.

I don't think "Icky Thump" should be anywhere near the Top 10 ... a few decent songs and that's it.

I've been getting into the Jam, a British 70-80s punk/pop band, recently.

    Anyone else a fan?

I have no idea how they weren't they huge in the US. I mean, they never had a stinking hit here.

AC/DC bassist Cliff Williams turns 58 today. His haircut turns 42.

I own two of those CDs.

I've probably heard of 10 of the artists. :D

I own 20 of them and have designs on owning at least a dozen more. And by "own" I mean "possess digital representations of," not necessarily in CD form.

just went through the list counting...
I own 4 of the albums in CD form, another 4 in digital form. Then there are another 20 artists I've heard of, but don't own the album in any format.

Have heard of 44 bands here, have 4 in digital format, 1 on cd. Overall an extremely weak year in my opinion.

OK, after much deliberation, here's my top 10. At least 10 I wanted to consider but didn't have time to procure and listen yet, so this is it.

    Wilco - Sky Blue Sky
    Arcade Fire - Neon Bible
Modest Mouse - We Were Dead Before the Ship Even Sank
The Shins - Wincing the Night Away
Spoon - Ga Ga Ga Ga Ga
    Bruce Springsteen - Magic
    Bright Eyes - Cassadaga
Jason Isbell - Sirens of the Ditch
    The Fratellis - Costello Music
The Nightwatchman - One Man Revolution

Honorable mention: Rocky Votolato - The Brag and Cuss; The New Pornographers - Challengers; Kanye West - Graduation; The National - Boxer; Imperial Teen - The Hair, The TV, The Baby & The Band; The Eames Era - Heroes and Sheroes; Art Brut - It’s A Bit Complicated; Okkervil River - The Stage Names; Ted Leo & the Pharmacists - Living with the Living; Arctic Monkeys - Favourite Worst Nightmare.
