Discovered Mind.In.A.Box while on iTunes the other night.

Immedialty bought all three of their albums. What a find.

I bought The White Stripes' Icky Thump recently on iTunes and having never listened to them this CD has been a pleasant surprise. It is kick ass through and through.
Just an awesome grouping of different kind of music. What of their old stuff will I like?

De Stijl is my favorite, 'Gola.

    Pallister,

Being There is still my favorite start-to-finish Wilco album. But you're the only other person I've ever heard voice this opinion.

I'd go YHF second, Summerteeth third, and then A.M./Ghost/SBS in a can't-choose-between-them tie for fourth.

Having never listened to it, but knowing Tweedy's past and present, I just enjoy that he's still got a lot of his Uncle Tupelo roots on the album, but, at the same time, you can see how he's adapting his music to what it's become over the years. I like the songwriting a lot, too. It's a little more grounded (but still meaningful) than a lot of his stuff on YHF, which often loses me.

I've only heard a handful of songs on Summerteeth, so I'll have to pick that up and check it out.

I've been getting into a lot of newer bands lately. One that I am listening to right now is Sunset Rubdown. They remind me of Modest Mouse. Here's a link to their myspace page: http://www.myspace.com/justchoke.

    Stone Cane,

That was a list I compiled by consulting various best-of lists. Many of them I had heard already, a few I hadn't, but wanted to check out before I made my list.

And I've been listening to most of those "hipper-than-thou buzz bands of 2007" for a few years now.

    Where's your list?

I just found out about Architecture in Helsinki -- totally missed the boat on them -- and they remind me a little of Modest Mouse, too. Also getting into Tullycraft, and there's this dude who calls himself Fishboy who put out an excellent album last year.

Ah, the joys of Hype Machine. :D

Sunset Rubdown is a ripoff of Modest Mouse, through and through.

"Elephant" is the best album they made. It doesn't rock as hard as "Icky Thump", although it does have a couple of heavy tunes on it like "Ball and Biscuit" and "The Hardest Button to Button", which is a total Nirvana rip-off.

Ditto... that's a pretty diverse record ("Seven Nation Army" is very heavy as well). To me, the Stripes' latest album is simply re-hashing everything they're already done.

I'd take De Stijl, White Blood Cells or Elephant over Icky Thump, and I don't think it's fair to even compare the latter to the previous three albums.
