As far as Wilco, Being There, while a great record, isn't as adventurous as YHF or even Summerteeth, which is basically just a tremendous pop album.

I still rarely find myself listening to the second disc on Being There.

I would list Sumeerteeth, YHF, Being There, SBS, AM and A ghost is Born as my choices. Of course, none of these are bad albums.

As for the Stripes. get Elephant or White Blood Cells, but they are all good, even the first self-titled one.

I just picked up the Raising Sand album with Robert Plant and Allison Krauss. Not bad after one listen, and there are a few very good songs on there.

Ahhh, more musical misinformation. And citing a band that did absolutely nothing new musically speaking, unlike the Stripes forging a sound with 2 people. In fact, you're not even close on Seven Nation Army. Jack White actually ripped it from The Gories "Sovereignty Fight." The Gories were a seminal Detroit punk/blues band. Go hear a snippet at iTunes.

I agree with Pallister. De Stijl is my favorite Stripes album too.
    1. De Stijl
    2. Get Behind Me Satan
3/4. White Blood Cells/Elephant (both very good, so it's a push for me)
    5. self-titled CD

I actually prefer the second disc on Being There.

    Jack White is Kind Midas.

Buy all of them. "White Blood Cells" is probably my favorite, but they're all great.

Icky Thump feels like a tribute album of some sort. The song Icky Thump sounds like something Black Sabbath would have done, then they have a couple of blues songs, a song that sounds like Led Zeppelin, and Baby Brother sounds like Elvis.
Maybe that is there sound - like I said, I'd never listened to them - but it seems not so much like they are ripping things off, just that they are trying to sound like some of the old big bands.

You might have a point. There's more of a rock vibe, and a bit less of the bluesy stuff they've done in the past.

I like Icky Thump ... it just hasn't pulled me in the way White Blood Cells or Elephant did.

DJ Boun did a mash-up of Jay-Z's "American Gangster" and various U2 songs. The songs actually mesh very well. "I Know" is mashed with a sped up "Beautiful Day". Jigga seems to have a flow that can fit over any real pop band. Linkin Park, The Beatles and U2 come to mind.

The Stripes have always reminded me of Zeppelin.

I bought Vampire Weekend's debut and it's kind of a mixed bag after two listens. The album ain't garbage, I'm just not sure it's worthy of the ridiculous amount of hype it's been getting.

BTW, it's No. 7 on amazon's top sellers ... so much for being an "unknown" indie band.
