    I'm pissed that I just learned about Nicole Atkins today. She was at the concert club down the street three days ago, and I definitely would have been there had I known who she was. Alas, I missed out. You should not if you have the chance:

    I got the new Chris Wala and really like it.

    And 2008 is shaping up pretty good so far: New records from REM, Death Cab, Counting Crows.

    Tift Merritt's new album which comes out Tuesday is supposed to be outstanding.
    Heard an advance copy of Allison Moorer's new album - a collection of covers - and it's allright, nothing great.
    Still need to get my hands on the new albums from Marah and Shelby Lynne.

    Paste gave Merritt's new album a good review. So, that's something.

    Three bands I am totally into right now:

    * Against Me! (http://www.myspace.com/againstme)
    * The Go! Team (http://www.myspace.com/thegoteam)
    * 1990s (http://www.myspace.com/1990sband)

    Just a coincidence that two of the bands have exclamation points in their names.

    Against Me! is from Gainsville. Just good ole fashioned rock -- loud guitars, loud drums, loud lyrics -- with a bit of a punk twist. Both 1990s and The Go! Team are from the UK. 1990s is more power poppy while Go! Team leans a bit more toward hip-hop, but both are upbeat and snappy.

    Against Me! will be touring w/Foo Fighters this spring. That's a must-see concert in my book.

    Anybody download the first free 9 tracks of Nine Inch Nails' new instrumental album, Ghost yesterday? I couldn't DL yesterday because it kept freezing due to the heavy traffic. Got it today.

    it's only $5 for the full album with 36 tracks. I only downloaded the freebies and it sounds like an Original Score of a movie or something. ghosts.nin.com is the link if anyone is interested.

    Saw Against Me! in Boston in December. Wasn't really impressed with their set. Then again, they were one of a group of bands leading into Spoon, so maybe they are better than I gave them credit for.

    I recently stumbled upon a mix of Pink Floyd's "Dark Side of the Moon" and Tupac's vocals. The mix is called "Dark Side of the Block" and even though I am skeptical about some mash-ups, this one actually works.

    I'd agree with you on Being There. Love, love, love the first disc. Misunderstood might be in my top three Wilco songs. Kingpin is great on disc 2, but I don't listen to that one as much as the first disc.

    Am I the only Wilco fan who likes A Ghost Is Born as much as any disc? So many great songs on that one. The first six are a murderer's row. Anyway, if I had to rate, I'd go:

    1. Ghost
    2. Summerteeth
    3. Being There
    4. YHF
    5. Sky Blue Sky
    6. A.M.

    The new REM is OK. It's a lot better than that last pile of junk they released, but it sure ain't "Document" or "Green".
