For those of you who can't wait to get your hands on the new Ben Folds record, which comes out Sept. 30, you can find it online ... sort of. Folds recorded and leaked a fake version of the album. Some of the songs are hilarious.

That's brilliant. And he's finally coming to my town for the first time in years.

    Jamie Cullum.

Anybody heard of this jazz musician?

    Thumbs up?
    Thumbs down?

He comes highly recommended after a friend saw him at the Monterey Jazz Festival.

I kinda like what I hear from the iTunes teases, but I can't tell if it would be a good purchase.

    Thanks,
    Hwy

I loved Cullum's first album, his second album a little less so because it featured more synthesizer than the mostly piano-backed first album.
Looking forward to the new Ben Folds album, I just hope this is a serious album and not a "joke" album he'll put out occasionally.
Totally dig the Darius Rucker song - can't believe he'll join Ray Charles and Charlie Pride on top of the charts. Sorry he'll have to bump Paisley's "Waiting on a Woman."
Is country music getting good again?

The new AC/DC album is the band's worst by a country mile. I should know, I was a big AC/DC fan-boi looser back in the day. The single they released is the only thing on the album that has the remote feel of an AC/DC record. The rest is full of boring blues riffs, atrocious lyrics and an inconsistent sound. Brian Johnson's voice sounds heavily processed almost tinny, the famous rhythm section is buried in the mix at times, the pace on nearly all the tracks is sloowwwww and Angus Young's solos are either nonexistent or a pain to get through.

The Wal-Mart marketing plan is abysmal as well. If this is indeed the band's last album, it's going a long way to tarnishing a solid legacy.

What's everyone think of the new Metallica album? Love the first single off of it, least they're back to rocking and not whining (See St. Anger). I like the whole thing. Gotta give it about 7.5 out of 10.

You know, I've listened to a great deal of '60s/'70s rock. The Beatles, The Who, Zeppelin, Hendrix, Cream, Pink Floyd, etc., but I'd never really listened to Dylan.

I just started about a week ago. Holy fuck.

The new Lucinda Williams album is outstanding and the newest installment of Dylan's bootleg series is great too.

John Legend's "Evolver" is brilliant. You'll be hearing "Green Light" all over the place the next couple months. The song he performed at the DNC along with the Agape International Choir closes the CD and sound even better than it did there:
Legend will be listed on many best-ofs at the end of the year.

The Hotel Cafe presents Winter Songs features some of the best Christmas music you'll hear this year. Sara Bareilles, Ingrid Michaelson, Fiona Apple, KT Tunstall, Brandi Carlisle: http://www.hotelcafe.com/wintersongs/

Can't stop tapping my feet to Pink's new CD. Doesn't hurt that Butch Walker helped out with some of it. "So What" is one of the best songs of the year:
    Great, great chorus.

Couple more really good Christmas CDs: Barlowgirl and The Essential Now That's What I Call Christmas.

I hate Paul Rodgers. Might as well call the group Bad Company + Brian May and Roger Taylor. Nothing but cliched, formulaic AOR rock garbage on the new Queen release. Ugh.

On a positive note, the albums from Jenny Lewis and Okkervill River are fantastic.

    Thanks for that, TSP.

I'm a sucker for a good pop hook, and that song's got one.

Love Okkervil River. Haven't heard Jenny Lewis yet, but looking forward to it.

What Made Milwaukee Famous knows how to play some rock & roll as well.
