The new Slaid Cleaves disc - "Everything You Love Will Be Taken Away" - is tremendous. In the few days I've had it it's become my favorite disc of his. If you like great songwriting check out the disc.
If you don't take my word for it, take Stephen King's word from the liner notes of the album:
"I'm glad I found Slaid Cleaves, because my
life would have been poorer without him. You'll feel the same, I think, when you
listen to this beautifully crafted album. Listen, go to one of Slaid's shows,
take a friend, and pass on the news: not all the good guys wear hats."

Went to the opening of the DMB tour last week at MSG. Good show, although I liked the next night's set list a little better. Highlights: Dragged out Raven from the Busted Stuff album, Tim Reynolds (guitar) and Carter Beauford (drums) were both on top of their game, and Greg Allman made a guest appearance for a Melissa duet.

Bought the new Silversun Pickups today. Outstanding. Not a bad song on the record.

Little bit more ambitious than the first album. Still fuzzy rock, but not quite as blaring. Great tempo.

Hope you guys can help a middle aged woman out. Just fell in love with Maroon 5's "Songs about Jane". Are there other albums worth checking out too?

And yeah, I know the album is years old. :D

The latest album, I think it was titled "Makes me Wonder", is actually pretty good as well. I liked it, pound-for-pound, better than Songs About Jane. Check out the title track, "Wake Up Call" and "Kiwi". Good stuff.

Love this guy. Saw him in concert back in Feb. Before that, I heard "Sideways" on some TV show and googled him. "Son's Gonna Rise" and "Bullet and a Target" are great too.

"It Won't Be Soon Before Long" (their second album) is very good.

If you are a fan of Kanye West, the very sweet and strong cut "Nothing Lasts Forever" will sound familiar. Also a strong batch of radio hits including "Makes Me Wonder", "If I Never See Your Face Again" (without Rhianna), "Wake Up Call", and "Won't Go Home Without You". Most fans of Top 40 radio will recognize all four of them. I also like "Little of Your Time" a lot. Talented guys, I wish they put out more material on a consistent basis.

Went to see Neko Case last night. First time I ever saw a performer kick someone out of a concert. Don't know what the person did, other than Neko said the person was flipping her off. She told the person to leave, then played a song, then after the song walked over to the side of the stage where the person was sitting and pointed to the exit. Then security came and escorted the person out.

I've seen Neko twice live now. I don't think she's that great of a live performer.

Don't know if there are any Disturbed fans on this board, but I love them. I recently saw them in concert in Mass (and by recently I mean a week ago today). They're selling official bootlegs of all their performances on their web site and I bought the one from the show I went to. What a great album. I love live music :)

Good buy for anyone that likes them. They're really good live.

Hugely talented singer... but from what I've heard, sounds like a fairly unpleasant person.

While I'm here... the new Tinted Windows album is pretty cool. For those who don't know, it's the supergroup with Adam Schlesinger of Fountains of Wayne, James Iha of Smashing Pumpkins, Bun E. Carlos of Cheap Trick, and Taylor Hanson of Hanson. Great stuff for power pop fans.
