    The White Stripes have split.

Considering all of Jack White's side projects, I guess this isn't surprising. Still very sorry to hear the news ... the Stripes are one of my favorite bands of the past decade or so.

I just wanted to say I heart Sleigh Bells. Seriously can't get enough of them.

Anybody been to Magnetic Hill in Moncton, New Brunswick?
U2 360 Tour finale there, June 30. Oh, and by the way, there's a certain crew from Montreal (plus two from Texas) on the undercard...

Maybe Insane Clown Posse can open. Surely they'd think the venue was a miracle.

Agree on the greatness of the Stripes. They'll be missed.

And while Meg White wasn't the greatest drummer in the world ...

I've been listening to the Smith Westerns a lot lately. Good album.

Then again, I've been listening to ABBA a lot too, so yeah ...

Heard a sneak preview of the Drive-by Truckers' new album "Go-Go Boots" (out the 15th) online yesterday. Some dark subject matter, but the music itself is more laid-back. Really, not a single rocker in the bunch. "Used to be a Cop" is the closest. A little disappointed with Patterson's stuff on first listen, but I'll give it some time to grow on me. Cooley has a couple good songs that are essentially traditional country tunes (one's a cover) that, to me, evoke Townes Van Zandt. Even Shonna has a song that, for a change, doesn't suck. Good cover of Eddie Hinton's "Everybody Needs Love," too.

Gaga's single "Born This Way" is a trainwreck. I don't think anyone was expecting the second coming of the Thriller album out of her, but I think there was an expectation that she would progress creatively. Instead, she chose this lazily written generic gay rights club anthem as the first single on a much anticipated album.

You can almost smell the desperation.

Do us all a favor, Radiohead. For the transparent gimmick on your next album, make it be "all songs written and performed by Liars." That way we'd actually get a good album!
