Can download lots of stuff. Haven't had time yet to really dig in to the blog, but thought I'd pass it along in case anyone is interested.

It may not be as noteworthy as those tapes of Bob Dylan performing around the University of Minnesota campus 13 years earlier, but it’s better. A 1973 bootleg recording of the late, great Townes Van Zandt performing at the Whole in the U’s Coffman Union has become something of a hot item among the Texas songwriting legend’s cultish fan base. Yesterday, the popular Los Angeles music blog Aquarium Drunkard even posted a link to download the hour-long, 14-song performance in full.

The Spin Clean is a great option if you don't want to throw down hundreds on a VPI vacuum cleaner. Cost is the main reason I quit vinyl after trying it out for about a year and a half; there was too much involved and records, even used, keep rising in value. I loved the idea of crate digging, but grew to dislike the tediousness that came with cleaning LPs and pops/clicks.

Now, I buy CDs (mostly used) since they're generally dirt cheap and use Spotify Free to decide what I want to own. Then I rip the discs to lossless and play 'em on my computer through a USB digital-to-analog converter. Think I said this somewhere here but DACs are an incredible, often fairly inexpensive way to get GREAT sound out of your computer audio, even if you're using Spotify or some other streaming service. If you listen to a lot of music at home, it's worth the $100-200 to give one a shot.

I like shows that like because you get to hear newer stuff, but also some of the stuff that inspired/influenced it. It's cool to trace musical roots like that.

The new album by The National "Trouble Will Find Me", which will be out May 21, is streamimg on ITunes. Incredible. It's not quite the rocker I was hoping for, but it's High Violet with a little more stripped sound. Lyrically, it's clear the band is reaching middle age. Fewer lyrics about 3 a.m. drunken nights and more mature thoughts about life. Less neurotic, more assured. The sound is again rich. Quirky time signatures. Understated synths. Another beautiful album.
