I'm all about it. I'm also in love with Lauren Mayberry.

I like it more now than I did at first (same thing with the Haim album), but I'm still not loving it. The two recent albums that I'm wearing out, and are in my top 4 favorites from this year (along with Kanye and Vampire Weekend) are Janelle Monae's Electric Lady and Lorde's Pure Heroine.

I've got to say, I don't get the Haim love at all. I've been hearing about them for at least the past year. The album's finally out... and it sounds like a third rate Pointer Sisters album to me.

Haim doesn't interest me either. I enjoy their music when I hear it, but in the 1980s, they would have been another band with the same sound as anyone else. That means they're better than a lot of what comes out these days, but they're regressive and uninteresting.

I felt the same way initially, but it's grown on me with more listens.

My favorite songs that I'm thinking of right now of 2013, limited to one song per musical act:

    1. Kanye West, "Blood on the Leaves"
    2. Janelle Monae, "Victory"
    3. Daft Punk, "Contact"
    4. The National, "Demons"
    5. Chvrches, "Recover"
    6. Run the Jewels featuring Big Boi, "Banana Clipper"
    7. Vampire Weekend, "Ya Hey"
    8. Chance The Rapper featuring Vic Mensa and Twista, "Cocoa Butter Kisses"
    9. Earl Sweatshirt featuring Vince Staples and Casey Veggies, "Hive"
    10. Jason Isbell, "Elephant"

    Avicii's CD is fantastic.

I saw Janelle Monae last night, and I'm fairly confident (even considering the recency effect) that's the best show I've ever seen. She killed it the whole time.

Saw Frightened Rabbit last night. They killed it. Favorite part was when Scott Hutchison came out to the end of the stage, got everyone to shut up and did a true acoustic rendition of "Poke." No mic, no amp, nothing. Really cool. Fun show.

"Wake Me Up" is huge right now. What a unique song ... folk music produced like a trance record.

We rarely get into those cycles where great pop music comes out at once anymore, but this seems to be one of those times.

"Wake Me Up" is the worst.
