You aren't talking about Lana del Rey?

She also wrote this great op/ed last month.

On an unrelated and sadder note, RIP Lou Reed.

Velvet Underground and Nico and White Light/White Heat were such huge "gateway" albums for me when I first discovered them in college. It was even cooler when I discovered he went to Syracuse.

It took me a few listens to get there, but I'm really starting to like Laura Marling's new album. I think it might be her best album so far.

Our local college radio station plays here stuff a lot. Also, the SiriusXM Loft station plays much of her stuff. I've been meaning to listen to her stuff more.

Today, I'm giving the Arcade Fire listen a second listen now that it's up on Spotify.I expect it to grow on me.

"Normal Person" on Reflektor has hit me in the right place for some reason. I can listen to it dozens of times in a row without tiring of it. Joan of Arc growing and growing on me, as well.

This will be in my top five albums of the year. Yeezus wrapped up the top spot a long time ago.

I had a friend rip the live stream of Reflektor ... but I did the band a solid and bought the double CD for $9.99 today.

West reminds me so much of a movie director from the late 60s-late 70s. At some point he's just shitting around on a track -- in life, frankly -- and the cultural era is such that critics says fixate on the technique, the syntax.

Are we talking about Kanye West?

If you want to start with a full album, I recommend "I Speak Because I Can".

Awesome, listening now. I love her voice. For some reason it reminds me of Joanna Newsom, but deeper and much less grating.

A much needed departure from what I was listening to yesterday: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Seer_%28Swans_album%29

Great album, but I wouldn't qualify it as "enjoyable" listening.
