I ended up listening to a few of her albums on Spotify. Good stuff.

And Jools is great. The repeats are always airing on the Palladium Channel or on BBC America. I've also discovered some lesser known artists by watching the show.

I remember this guy catching my eye: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Charles_Bradley_%28singer%29

The closest thing we have to Holland's wonderful show is when Colbert brings a band on. But they get an entire show and multiple bands every week. You'd need to find a powerful person in music respected by multiple generations to get that kind of participation in the U.S. Maybe Elvis Costello or David Byrne could pull it off? I'd watch.

Too bad Elvis did only two seasons of his show on IFC (?). Excellent lineups, from up-and-comers to superstars. Pretty good interviewer, too.

The Roots. They already do it for Jimmy Fallon.

    Speaking of Jools Holland...

Great performance by The National. I love watching Bryan Devendorf on the drums. I'm still disappointed I missed them in Boston on this tour. They are tremendous live.

The Devendorf brothers are my favorite current rhythm section to watch. They aren't showy. They make some really cool stuff look easy. And I get the feeling they keep Berninger and the twins Dessner from going into hissy fits or wine-induced slap fights that would break up the band.

I saw The National live back in 2006 and wasn't all that impressed. That memory has kept me away from their live shows since then. I feel like I should give them another shot, though.

Also, this album is pretty solid: http://www.npr.org/2013/11/03/242103173/first-listen-soundtrack-inside-llewyn-davis.

Yeah, I love how effortless Bryan makes it look. I think Chris Bear from Grizzly Bear is in the same vein. His drumming isn't showy, but his style is so unique and essential to their sound.

I had the benefit of seeing them for the first time on the High Violet tour, so I guess they had probably evolved since that point. It wasn't a showy show, they just play with a great energy. Plus, I liked how Berninger pretty much walked all the way around the club during Terrible Love.

Quite unexpectedly, I'm liking the new Sky Ferreira album "Night Time, My Time" more with each listen. It's a punky, 80s-tinged pop album that's damn catchy, but also has more substance than the usual pop album.

Also, thanks to Versatile for sending along Doley Bernays' mixtape. It's my second favorite rap album of the year behind Yeezus: http://www.complex.com/music/2013/09/doley-bernays-just-in-case-ep.

I like Sky Ferreira, too, but hate admitting it because of the hipsters.

Can't let them make you ashamed of liking stuff that's good. She's playing in my city on Friday with the Smith Westerns and I'll probably check it out, which is funny because I had never heard any of her music before like 2 weeks ago.
