I didn't start listening to rock until about 2004 (having listened almost exclusively to rap before). But when I did, I prioritized the classics.

I didn't really start diving into music until 2004/2005. Thankfully, though, I had grown up with my dad playing classic rock, my one brother listening to alt-rock, and my other brother listening to rap. So I had heard plenty of stuff, but hadn't listened through many albums up to that point. Once I did, though, those influences, and those of college friends, pushed me in a variety of directions.

Yeah, it is definitely more poppy. On the last two albums they have also kind of explored a weird mash-up of guitar rock/bluegrass/banjo/folk (Spitting Venom, Bukowski, Satin in a Coffin, etc.) that they first hinted at on Lonesome Crowded West. I hope they finish up a new album this year.

I wish I had been more diligent about that. Although, it is interesting to hear something newer and then listen to the music that influenced it and notice the progression.

I think I have discovered the British Timberlake.

This kid has something. He's not 19 yet, but he's going to be a global superstar.

I thought you were going to post a video of Sam Smith who is also in the process of blowing up in the U.S.

    Speaking of Brits...

SiriusXMU has been playing the Arctic Monkey's Arabella a ton lately, and I think the chorus is just a brilliant bit of wordplay:

My days end best when this sunset gets itself
Behind that little lady sitting on the passenger side
It's much less picturesque without her catching the light
The horizon tries but it's just not as kind on the eyes
    As Arabella

That Arctic Monkeys album is one of my absolute favorites from last year.

It's great, and was a nice surprise. I had listened to Humbug and really liked it, but I kind of ignored Suck it and See. It's fun to see a band grow and change musically and lyrically like they have.

Isn't that song more than a year old?
