What does the gathered crowd here think of Margot & the Nuclear So and Sos?

I keep hearing them on XMU and I dig just about every song.

Whoever recommended the Black Keys, many thanks.

I passed on Chulahoma for now and picked up 2004's Rubber Factory. Best album I've purchased in a while...wow.

Not the newest stuff on the street, but J-Dilla's "Donuts" is worth at least an iTunes peruse.

Gnarls Barkley crowd: You'd dig it the most.

I recommended the Black Keys, but was disappointed in Chulahoma. It's muddy alright, but too slow. Didn't appreciate the quote from widow Kimbrough at the end either.

Two of the better recommendations here have been cds by The Magic Numbers and The Twilight Singers. Great stuff.

  5. I still recommend the Black Keys, and the Black Angels.

  6. Danny,

Glad you enjoyed The Magic Numbers. ... Not that they're at all alike, but rivaling them for the most-recently-listened-to spot in my CD player is Roger Clyne and The Peacemakers, who have a great rockin' bar-band feel to them, in the same vein as the J. Geils Band did 30 years ago, when they were more rock and less pop.

New York Dolls are back...and what a lovely a lovely new album they've recorded. Most rock 'n roll thing I've heard in ages.

    (You can't buy it...yet)

    WBCC,

You probably know this already, but Roger Clyne's former band was the Refreshments, who happen to have been one of the most underrated bands of the 1990s.

i'm really digging frank black's new double album -- fast man raider man

if you liked honeycomb, which i did, and would like to hear more of the same but more up-tempo, this is great

and danny, i like chulahoma and didn't mind the message. kinda thought it was cool in a way. but, you know.

I have no new music to mention as usual, but I was downloading some of my '70s favorites and wanted to ask if anyone out there is a Thin Lizzy fan. Except for my older brother who turned me on to their music, I've never met anyone who was into Thin Lizzy. Phil Lynott was a great songwriter, and I think TL was the most underrated rock band of their generation.

If you like Roger Clyne from his days with the Refreshments or the Peacemakers, definitely check out these two bands:

    - The Pistoleros. Another great band from Arizona with a rocking, fun sound. Start with their live disc - Bars and Guitars

    - The Waco Brothers Tremendous alt-country band currently based in Chicago. Their sound has been described by some as "(Johnny) Cash meets Clash". Some people say about their concerts "If you're not drunk, sweaty and out of money at the end of one of their shows, then brother, we pity you." Call it country-punk if you will. Cowboy in Flames is a great album to start with. With the exception of their first album, I can pretty much recommend any of their discs.
